|
|
Ive just removed the front badge panel (about 30-40) spot welds and am about to install my 951 intercooler
Is the intercooler directional?..ie one pipe on it is at a shallow angle the other is close to 90 degrees, does it matter which is inlet which is outlet?
The car is a NA 924 being converted to a turboed 924 (bae turbo) it is retaining stock CIS. Inlet pipe to intercooler will be coming up from the "Australian drivers side" outlet will be going straight to the throttle body
Also has anybody ever reused the nose panel yet somehow made it removeable ?
I could use a line of self tapering screws along the bottom edge but ide be guessing if i did this on the top edge it would interfere with the front lip of the bonnet raising it a couple of mill as you cant really countersink screws on thin sheet metal. I need it removeable to get to the intercooler mainly for tightening or removing the silicon hose connectors _________________ 1979 NA

I used tiny flat head sheet metal screws and washers. The screw head barely covers the washer hole, makes for a fine countersink. It does NOT interfere with the hood.

FWIW, I wouldn't really call it 'removable'. . .it has putty between the panels, and with it painted, it would suck to remove it again. If there's a way to have pipe extending out of your mounting area I would do it. . .those couplers can be a bit. . .needy. _________________ Toofah King Bad

thanks rasta dude..p.s long time no argue!
might run some screws or perhaps small bolts and washers
Does it matter which is the inlet or outlet on the 951 intercooler? _________________ 1979 NA

107-35 in the 944 PET shows how it was used in the 951. Functionally, I doubt there is a difference. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Yeah shouldn't matter which way unless one opening is larger than the other - then I'd consider the larger one the inlet. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

a shi77 load of angle grinding and the intercooler sits in nicely
now just brackets and making sure everything will sit in happily
pics on their way! _________________ 1979 NA
