I just wanted to make sure I've got this straight. there was no official factory Repair manual for the 924s, correct? If i wanted factory manuals i would have to get the 944 and 924 ones? I'm finally grabbing a copy of the Haynes manual for small things, but i might bite the bullet and get the factory ones, or at least the 944 one for the engine. Just wanted to make sure i had facts straight before spending that much money. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924s (summer project)

You need both the Porsche Factory 924 and 944 Workshop Manual Sets to get all of the information for a 924S. The 944 Workshop Manual must be a late edition, or one with all of the Supplements, since the 924S came along during later 944 production.
Same thing for the Haynes Manuals, you will need a late 924 Service Manual (olive drab cover color), and a 944 Service Manual (make sure you get a late version, all have the same blue cover). The Haynes 944 Service Manual is a waste of money as far as I am concerned, with it's numerous torque spec errors, and lack of coverage of the ac system, and transmission among other systems. |

Gohim is right, the Haynes manuals are adequate at best. I have one I keep in the glovebox in case of emergency, but for any real repairs, you really need at least the 944 factory manuals. I got mine cheap as a CD in PDF form.
Incidentally, I've yet to run into anything on my 924S that isn't covered by the 944 factory manual. I don't know that you really need the 924 manual as well. |

From what i understand, the PDF's are illegal copies. the only legal ones are the hard copy ones in binders. I'm sure the PDF's could be obtained through some means, but like i said, its not legal. Thats not to say i agree with 20 year old manuals costing $250, but it looks like i'll just break down and get them at some point. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924s (summer project)
