Just wanted to say Hi. I have been lurking the board for a couple weeks now, just about 3 days before I bought my brand new used 1978 924. Thanks for all the great info you guys have put together. I have already put to good use the instructions on replacing the ignition. Basically the car is in pretty good shape, it had a bad ignition and starter in it when I got it the dash has one crack in it and the rest of the interior is in pretty bad shape. Carpet is shot, driver seat split bad, wood dash is warped, cracked faded, AC doesnt work(or so I was told there isn't a belt on the compressor)Shift knob is split and missing insert( looks like they were trying to remove it).I have the map tray too btw. I have fixed the ignition and starter and am now doing body work. There are a couple rust spots on the roof in front of the sun roof, and one bad spot about 6 inches in dia. on the right front fender behind the wheel well. I have about half the car sanded down and hope to be priming within the week. Next would be a new exhaust (any other place to get exhaust beside performance products?) and then to the interior.

Welcome! Excellent choice of car.

I´d like to know how the painting went, how long it took, what it cost and if you had any problems. Send in some pictures if you can. If I had the time I would repaint my car too. Maybe someday... It would be easier to buy another (late model) 924 but I kind of like this one.

You get attatched to these old cars. Or addicted. I´m always amazed and impressed with how silently and easily everything works in new cars I drive. But where´s the exitement? Hotstarting a 924 is always an adventure. You never know if you will cruise out of the parking lot with your head up high or if you will have to call your friends to come over in their japanese cars to give you a jump start. Makes life exciting. :

If you have a Porsche dealer near you, steer clear of Tweeks and Performance Products. I learned the hard way, most of the stuff I bought from those outfits was actually Porsche parts and more than I would have spent at the dealer. Use the wanted/selling board here and at Rennlist. Welcome aboard!

Nicke, I had to use my hot start button for the first time this year today, worked like a champ. Anybody who has the hot start problem and doesn't do this cheap and simple mod, I feel for you.

This one computer- internet- millionaire was speeding and since the amount you have to pay is depending on your monthly income he got a ticket for about that much. This was before the internet- bubble burst here in Europe and the guy just had sold stock from his company for some absolutely ridiculous sum of money when the company actually was a handful of nerds with new laptops and a few ideas. Now all the companys are worthless. And I think they lowered the speeding ticket in court. Actually he wasn´t speeding that badly but he changed lanes too often and was overtaking too many cars in the center of the city. I think. He drove a Lamborghini. Here´s a picture of the poor(?) guy:

BTW the finnish icehockeyplayer Teemu Selänne held the previous record for the largest speeding ticket: 40 200 Australian dollars (Australian because I checked this from an Ausralian site)

It was an executive from Nokia who got the speeding ticket and it was reduced to $5000usd after he appealed it in court.
