I have decided to replace the horribly 80's teal and black phone dials on my '88 Le Mans with some different wheels. I need inspiration, and would love comments on what 5-bolt wheels you all think look best on the 924. Here's what I'm thinking:
1) 16" Phone Dials
2) 16" Polished Flat Dish
3) 16" Design 90
4) 16" Boxters
What are your favorite wheels on a 924 or 924S? Have you seen other wheels not listed that look really sharp?

my vote is always for fuchs but then I'm traditionalist.
Current wheel designs on classic cars always reminds me of older women in short skirts. |

HA! Good one Peter.
Gotta' agree with the Fuchs. Either that or the phone dials. I've got a set of each and a set of spiders and I've been trying to sell one of the sets for about 3 years. Problem is I can't decide so I just hang on to all three and trade 'em out occasionally. Tough decision man. But the contemporary wheels I've seen on 924's (aftermarkets) just don't do it for me.

I vote for 944 turbo flat-dish, with 944 turbo phonedials a close second.

I vote for the 16 inch flat dish wheels that came on the 924 turbos sport suspensions. They look great. Also classic so no grandma in spandex look.

I've got design 90's on my 931, they look good, but the main advantage over standard 931 wheels is that they are easy to keep clean - not much looks worse than a dirty set of wheels !. If I had the money though i'd go for fuchs wheels, they look great

I vote 993 twist. I have'em on my car 7.5 front with 205's and 9.5 rears with 255's. No rubbing either! I ordered them from Tweeks. If I could figure out how to post a pic here I would! New paint......new wheels.....I have fallen in love again! My wife's jealous

I have had almost all of the wheels on my car and my opinion is polished flat dish 928 rims. I have had many comments that they look much, much better that all the rest.
Want to remove the clearcoat and have chrome like finish. Go to the suspenion portion of this site under wheels and see that it can be done for about $15 and some elbow grease. |

I like the aftermarket ones...
...they really piss off the purists.

Arghhh!
I have winter tires on the 16" flat wheels that came with my '82 931 and performance tires on a set of 7x16" Fuchs for the rest of the year - I like 'em both.

I personally really like the wheels I got for my car, they have a somewhat similar appearance to a cross between the phone dials and a "sand-dollar". I think the 924 body style works well with most any modern wheel which is organic and rounded looking, but that is my opinion (and I think Rick's wheels look very good).
I really don't like most of the stock wheels of the 924 vintage, but phone dials or black Fuchs with the polished lip look great in 16".

Aftermarket wheels can look good - like those on the MacLaren machine... I'm realising my "Arghhh" might have been taken wrong - wasn't meant to be a commentary on the looks of the car - was just pretending to be a purist and pissed off. Humor intended - that's all. Probably should leave it to the professionals. Actually, if we had another season that required another set of tires, I'd have a set of aftermarkets myself.
Something like those spoked wheels with nice rotors and painted calipers behind...that's a good look.

| Hey Jason!! What!..... I've got to know what offset your rear wheels are and if you're using a spacer. 255's...yeah buddy! I have rubbing issues with 225's! What brand tire and what series is on the rear? Anxious for your reply. -Troy |

Where do all these half size rims come from.
is it acutally 7.5 or 7 inch ...you measure the inside the bead lip not the outside
On the rear
I've got to see 10 or even a 9 fit with a stock tire size, I just don't believe it.
