Well Guy's,
Today was another round of the UK Porsche Speed Championship, held at Castle Combe. The track is based around an old airfield, but since the 1950's has been a proper race track, hosting all manner of formulae, including F3.
In short, it is a fearsomely fast and dangerous circuit, with numerous areas to have a BIG one!!
So we all rolled up today, and true to form, the great british summer was in full bloom. For you colonials, that's rain, rain, wind and oh yes, yet more rain
The class structure is such that as my car is running with 250 BHP, it is a P2 car, but with the addition of slicks, i am moved up into P1. Now this is basically the unlimited class, and my rivals were a 911 GT3RS, 993 RSR to name a few. So basically, I'm toast
Anyway, rain seems to be a great leveller, and after a big off on my first run, where i hit some standing water and speared off stage right, i seemed to be languishing around the 87 second mark. And my opponents? 83 seconds. Hmm, not good.
So with the rain now falling steadily, i set the car up, adjusted the pressures on my cut slicks(intermediates) and got ready for action.
So after what can only be described as an intense, but exhilirating run, the clock was stopped.
The result?
81.31 seconds. my nearest rival was a GT3 RS engined 996 cup car at 81.71 seconds.
So the long and the short is that i have notched up my first ever victory, my little 924 was the fastest Porsche in a field of 30, with some seriously big hitters in play, and this is only my 9th ever event. Considering each event equates to an average of 4 minutes race time, that gives me a total seat time of little over 40 minutes. Total.
Am i chuffed? Do bears poop in the woods
