I am needing a little more cooling capacity and I was wondering if the 944 radiator is actually any better than the stock 924? Anybody do this? I assume it is not a bolt in either but was it much work? Are the A\C models any bigger? Thanks,

Yes it is better. Much better.
It bolts in, sort of. And, YMMV but I had to splice the hoses to fit because the 924 hose didn't fit the 944 radiator fittings. I used a couple of those little plastic resizing splicer tube things. I have the numbers for the two hoses that worked for me. If you need them, LMK and I can go hunt around and find the numbers. |

I have a 944 turbo one taking up space in the garage....its good, no leaks and doesn't appear to be clogged. (edit I ran it in my track car so I am sure its not clogged)
I don't want much for it...
toss me an e-mail if interested.

Duel fans and lower temp fan switch make all the difference in the world.
If you are not running 2 fans ,make that jump first.
I read the 931 Rad is the one to go to if your upgrading.
Did you put in an oil cooler? _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

| The best thing I did my my cooling system in the 931 was replace the fans. It stayed much cooler after new fans were installed. |

Thanks for the tips. I am running the A|C style dual fan setup and this did help but after going to 10lbs boost I started to heatup last summer when temps went above 90°F. I know I am having some airflow problems due to the size of my intercooler. It is the same size as the radiator. I have since installed a second blowoff\bypass valve to help bleed off the heated air before it enters the intercooler at cruise speeds. This should help some.
I think I might try the aftermarket fan setup first as it will also free up some room under the hood and I can still use them on a larger 944 radiator later if needed.
An oil cooler needs to happen either way.

My oil cooler helped reduce water temps considerably, but the best mod was to bypass the cermaic resistor and run the fan from a relay directly from the battery, this improved airflow by at least 30%...
Does megasquirt have an auxillary output you could run the fan off??

The resistor is bypassed by the fan relay when the ign is on. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

augidog the 931 rad is the same as the 924 rad,
if you wish to upgrade the 944 rad is the way to go. It will keep your temps cooler, though I would recommend that you install a very cool thermostat and a lower fan temp switch, and wire the fans right off the battery as there is voltage loss with all the factory wiring. _________________ 3 928s, |

Leadfoot, the MS I use can be used to control the fan but I need to do some board mods. I can do these when I modify it to take over my ignition.
I think you improved your airflow because you bypassed your stock wiring as Lizard pointed out. I have already done this and it did make a noticable difference in fan speed.

Very cool, pun intended...
I'd be adding the oil cooler first though...
Lizard I guess this would also apply to the lighting system as well as I noticed an improvement there too when I replaced some of the wiring... still have to do the driving lights so I can see the difference.

Just bringing this post back from the dead to say I purchased this radiator from Mike and couldn't be happier with the deal. He is a standup guy and a fast shipper! Don't hestitate if he has something else for sale.
