Hi all

recently got the 924 running, only to fing that the front crank seal leaks. meant to be an easy fix, but getting that nut undone was a nightmare. tried all the normal breakerbar and crank, and rattlegun options. all i managed to do was smash my breaker bar. fortuantely my cheap torque rench was stronger and longer, and that worked second crank of the engine

my problem is that the seal was really smashed. i recently traded my aircon system to ozzie, and thus changed the front pulley from the double one to the single one. when i finally got the oil seal out today, there were 6 bolt sized marks in it that had probably resulted in its destruction.

are there shorter bolts for attaching the single pulley as opposed to the double? can i simply go to the bolt man and get some shorter ones? they probably only need to be 10mm shorter? will it affect anything else?

i really dont wanna put it all back to gether and end up with the same problem

cheers all

yikes .. yup get the shrter bolts from the bolt man
sound like you went from the double pulley to a single
make sure the pin that goes into the end of the crank &
into the pulley is in place. also make sure you get the
crank pulley nut torqued doen enough or you can have
the crank pully move bending that little pin causing the
timing to be off. It happend to me once.

What length are they??
My stock ones were 33mm total length with a 26mm threaded length...
I couldn't find the same length replacement, so went with 30mm total length 10.9...
I got my bolts from metfastners in preston.

they are about 35mm of threaded length from the start of the bolt to the back of the head. they are 6mm hex head bolts.

looking at them lined up with the timing pulley and the oil pump puley, it looks like that are about 5mm too long, which means they may hit on the oil seal again.

theres two bolt guys just round the corner, and both open again next monday. i'll aim for new bolts then, unless i get bored over the weekend, then i might simply cut 10mm off these ones and see what happens

cheers
