| thanks, I did a search on the forum as well. I had tried some pioneer and sony 4x6's but the panels wouldnt go back over them due to the ring around the speakers. Found some nice component ones that will fit. |

After getting sick and disgusted trying to find the proper fitting speakers, I took matters into my own hands.
I made a spacer to fill in the empty gap that speakers with deep dish "rims" made when they push the grill away from the door.

I just cut through the original grills and mounted them that way. They're red sonys so they match the car perfectly. Eventually, I'll get an aftermarket set of grills to go over them. _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

Wow,
Good job on the spacers! What did you make them out of?

| The Alpines in my car fit fine with no modifications. They came with some circular spacers though... very thin ones but they weren't needed. Blaupunkt also supposedly has some that fit. |

Some things just make me mad at my car's PO. This post sparked curiosity, so I went and checked my speakers as they crackle with bass and I just never remembered to look at them.
Lo and behold, aftermarket speakers of the circular variety. They're held in place only by the interior door cover, no screws or anything. Added to that, the right one is just packed with old newspaper and plastic bags to reduce vibration. I mean seriously, when the hell did this seem like a good idea?
Oh well, christmas is coming up, time to ask for some new speakers I suppose. _________________ 1987 924S: Very much in love with it, even if it's all finnicky |

I think they were Nylon.
I still have them installed, but I want to get something with a color that more closely matches the grill, or the vinyl on the door. I want them to be invisible. |
