Hey, did anyone ever get around to doing any graphics work on the 924 model for Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed?
I still need to create a street 924 (stock) and 931... and if we can come up with a power curve for a 937 (GT or GTR) I'll be happy to spend some time doing the chassis tuning. However, we still need the graphics...
Just a reminder, you can find the model of my ITA car at:

Cheers,

OK, I've now put up two new car models on my NFS-PU webpage:
http://vaughanscott.com/NFS_carsim/NFS_carsim.htm
The 924 ITA car is still there. What I've added is a stock 931, seems pretty accurate for modeling (without the optional swaybars), and fantasy vehicle merging the two - the 931's power curve with the handling of the ITA car. Try 'em out, see what you think, lemme know...
Still have to to stock 924, Carrera GT, and Carrera GTR.

RoW versions?
Anyone having the power curve for the 931 Rest-of-the-World version? These american cars a bit underpowered...

Go ahead, fix it if you'd like.
I recommend keeping the steering factor I used (1.5 I think?) - seems correct for the manual steering 924/931. I just fiddle mainly with the grip (front/rear balance) to adjust handling to appropriate performance. The dive/squat/body roll don't generally need much modification, though I found the stock 944 numbers were excessive.

They're bitmaps, so any relevant program should work...

No, the bitmap files are heavily compressed and locked in. You need the right program to uncompress the graphics files. Check the previous posts (previous thread) - teo's already posted how to unzip and re-zip the graphics.
Do you have NFS?

OK, yeah, you need to download two programs - I can email you the zipped versions if it's not a problem for you. However, the biggest problem is figuring out which bitmaps correspond to which parts of the car - they're very segmented. You'll really need the game to check your work!
What kind of program would you recommend to edit those bitmaps nicely?
On another note, I've just taken a shot at a GTR. It's available for upload, same page as before. I think it'll be powerful enough for you, Teo - it's got a rough guess at a power curve topping out at the known 375hp, guessing weight of 1000kilo. Handling is pretty fun too. I'm going to have to post some of my replays..

There's one big problem with the graphics, namely that you can modify the bitmaps, but you cannot modify the shape. I think EA has an agreement with Porsche not to release those utils you can use for editing the structure of the car. It's a kind of a CAD program, it is available for NFS4, and I've seen a plug-in for the NFS:PU, but that does not work. The other thing is that the cars are mirrored, so if you put the hood scoop on to the 931 on one side, you'll have it on the other side, too.
RACR,
I would correct the data for the 931 RoW, if I had the power curve. Anyway maybe multiplying all the data for having the top power reach 170HP/177HP will be enough. |

Yeah, I could see just doing sort of a percentage bump to the 931 to get it to the ROW spec. You'll still want to test drive to make sure the handling still feels right. I've noticed in other cases that the handling balance can be thrown off by changing the power curve.
Has anyone tried my GTR yet? Insanely fast. I did just leave the gearing at stock 944. Could be changed out, I'd have to get the gearset info from Scotty for a relevant track - I was thinking Nurburgring.
I'll have to check out those new utils. The graphics are really bugging me now that the performance is sorted.

about gearing
try to play with some extremly stupid gearing in the .sim file and see if it changes anything. I found that it does not affect the actual gearing in the game for the standard cars, only for the factory add-on cars. I think it's because for the standard cars in the game you have the option to replace the trans. at the setup menu, and the real data comes from somewhere else.
At least it was the case with the editor I used, that's why I based my 4 speed on the 928. |

about 937
I've just tried her, runs great, fun to drive!
I like this throttle-steering she requires to drive!
02:31:03 on Cote d'Azur for first try! (using keyboard)
Good job, RACR!
PS: no more ! in this post |
