ive worked on engines my whole life but never on suspensions and im looking for advise so i can decide if this is a job i want to do or if i put it in the shop ive always had the shop replace cv joints on my front wheel drive cars but without the steering components to wory about i would consider replacing them myself any special tools or techniques all advise appreciated

CV joints are a breeze if you have the right tool. You will need the 12 point 8mm star socket to remove the bolts. The metal is very fragile will strip easily without the right tool.
Once all of the bolts are loose the axles drop down. Exhaust side takes some maneuvering, but it is doable without dropping the exhaust.
good luck!

Yeah, sounds just like mine before I had them done. Clunks, especially around corners, and scares the **** out of you, thinking you're looking at replacing the transaxle. Relief when it's just the CV joints.

Mine acted like the differential was going out, it would surge and drag at low speed, once each tire rotation. When I replaced the CV set, my problem went away, leaving me with a BIG smile on my face.

The best way to get the bolts loose is to spray them with WD-40, then clean out the dirt with a brush. Make sure the tool in fully seated by giving it a light whack with a hammer.

One question I have is how to get the CV back on to the shaft. I seem to have to force the CV down before the C clip will fit. What is the best way to do that?
