I just purchased a 1982, 924. I was told the car never stopped running, but wasnt used. I have never worked with Porsche before, so I would appreciate information on this. I just need to know what basics should be covered, such as fuel filter, plugs, wires, or fuel just to get the car running. I also need to know if there is anything particular to working with a porsche.

Thanks for your help.

What seems to be wrong with it? Does the engine crank or turn over at all? I think we need the specifics of what the car sounds like, and what it is doing. Im confused...does it run right now, or not?

But some good things to replace are-

Spark plugs

Distributor cap and rotor

Fuel filter

Air Filter

New oil and oil filter

New gas is always good.

How long did it sit? Did the owner tell you whats wrong with it?

my best advice - pray

other than that, things to check include all the filters, tune up parts (plugs, wires, distrib), all the front of engine belts, rollers and seals, and the engine mounts.

Beyond that, you'll have to just fix the problems as they pop up (as problems tend to do on 20+ year old cars)

Thanks, that helps. I havent had a chance to turn it over yet, and as far as I know there arent any mechanical problems, just needs to be cleaned up and tuned up. Ill let you know when I get it running. Thanks again.

How long since it was run? Is the fuel bad? Varnished? Jelly? Rings rusted to cylinder walls? Those are some of the worst case scenarios.

A Porsche engine is like any other, needs air, fuel and spark. If any one of the ingredients is out of whack, it won't run.
