Trying to remove the rear control arm mount i snapped the bolt off in the frame. i drilled it out and ran a tap through the hole, but i guess some of the threads got messed up because putting the new bolt in, it slips. The hole is stripped.. What should i do? tap it to the next size bigger? The mount is already hard enough to line up to the hole because of hte bushing on the control arm which isnt letting it line up right. if i go a bolt size bigger it will be even harder to line it up right.

The rear mount for the control arm is a type of u bracket that goes over the bushing on the control arm. it has big openings on both sides for the bolts to go through into the frame, theres a large washer to secure the bolt against the large opening. The opening is kind of a rectangle.

do you know what bolt im talking about?

OK, so you're talking about the inner pivot of the rear control arm, not one of the mounts for the rear suspension then, correct? Your terminology is a little confusing, as it's non-standard, so that's why I want to make sure I know what you're talking about.

To review, there's one large bolt on the inner pivot for the rear control arm, and 3 bolts holding the rear control arm to the spring plate (which is splined onto the torsion bar). The control arm bolts therefore to the rear suspension aka torsion bar carrier - not to the frame. The torsion bar carrier bolts to the vehicle body (3 spots on each side, 6 bolts total).

So if we're talking about the same thing, the bolt you're having trouble with is nearly under the torque tube, correct?

On all the cars I've worked on, that's a through-hole with a nut securing on the other side - no threading. It's all sheetmetal anyway. The bolt is a big long bastard with a 19mm hex. Correct? They're just a slight angle off of completely sideways (lateral) to the car.

I beleive he is talking about the front control arms (A-arms) and the rear most mount that attaches to the frame rail.

If so, yes you should tap it for a larger bolt.

I think i will helicoil it to keep the bolt slim for alignment purposes, the bracket doesnt fit perfectly over the bushing on the control arm.
