IF you have the tools and a good quality torque wrench (can rent) you can do the headgasket yourself. As long as you aren't in a rush and have enough mechanical ablility to follow directions. Buy and read the Haynes manual , if after you still don't fill confident, than well yea you are screwed.
I sell Goetze headgasket sets for 40 (I think) bucks. These are new german gaskets.

Yeah, well, you'll want the full set. However, no need to go to the dealer, unless it's more convenient. Sounds like a decent price, though, especially in Canadian... the set usually goes for around 60-100USD...
Goetze or Victor Reinz are both good, fine quality. I've used them both. Won't blow again anytime soon, unless you fling the water pump/alternator belt on track, like I've done a few times! LOL
You'll want the set, since it's got really all the gaskets, new valve seals, new injector seals, all the goodies... it's well worth doing this job, since you can clean all the junk (carbon build-up, etc.) off of the head and valves, get rid of a lot of oil leaks, and other nice things... the car will practically run like new after a head job! I highly recommend it, almost as a matter of course...

| foget my earlier post about the distributor i forgot about this problem i wouldnt recomend that you replace the head gasket yourself its not he toughest job but you need to be a good backyard mechanic to do it properly and it doesnt seem like you have a good enough understanding of the procedure to do it yourself but if you know someone more familiar with the procedure maybe they could help you on the weekends |
