Outofthebox - yes I have used coatings I favor Swain.

They have helped a lot of guys do more with their motors and such.(no affiliation to them, but I have used them for years)
http://www.swaintech.com/race.html

Good reading on the different coatins is available on their site. Worth the time to read up. If you local company is offering similar coatings, then could be well worth it.

Certainly makes pistons more resistant to heat and you can coat, the head, valves, about anything and is not to pricey.

I have used their coatings on a 924S (2.5) when using non-porsche pistons, motor held up fine, last time I talked to the guy I sold the car to - it was still going strong and thats been 2 years - basically its a 2.7 - overbored 2.5 with sleeves, coatings and with a turbo conversion - forged coated pistons, coated head stock lower end stainless vales, blah blah - last I heard he added a turbo Trans and pushed boost to 1 bar.

One of my 3.8 T-Type motors has their coatings as well. I love their stuff. But speaking from my experience.

Good for Nitrous and Alchy motors as well.

I can not comment on how well it would work specifically for the 924 or 924 turbo, only that proper coatings when applied to an engine can increase life, performance and reduce wear and tear.

But don't take my word for it, check out their site and then see what your local company is offering

On Their Site They wrote:

When it came to improving automotive performance there was no free lunch. Everything engineers did to boost horsepower had a downside. Now, Swain Tech has developed a coating whose performance improvement doesn't come with a price. Swain GoldCoatä, a special thermal barrier coating for nitrous, turbo and blown engines, increases horsepower without sacrificing anything!

The energy that creates horsepower comes from the heat of combustion. Adding nitrous oxide to the fuel/air mix increases the intensity of the energy-generating heat in a combustion chamber. However, when that heat reaches a certain intensity it can melt pistons and other engine parts. GoldCoat protects pistons from heat damage and is actually extending engine life while boosting power.

GoldCoated Pistons!GoldCoat is an extra high temperature ceramic coating, which can even withstand sudden bursts of heat like those a dragster generates during a nitrous, or nitro powered quarter mile. The ceramic, which gets its name from its gold color, is applied .003" thick to piston domes and cylinder heads. The coating holds heat inside the combustion chamber so more usable horsepower can be extracted from it by making the gaseous products of combustion expand more. The coating also protects the base aluminum by insulating it from intense, damaging combustion heat. Parts are protected from high temperature oxidation, and heat transfer is reduced by spreading the heat over the entire coated surface, encouraging proper flame travel, and eliminating hot spots and detonation. Less heat conduction through the pistons, wrist pins and rods keeps the crank and bearings cooler and oil temperature lower.
