I want to make a set of polycarbonate/ Lexan windows. Car is being uses mostly for trackdays but must stay road legal for other events.
Original windows are about 4 mm thick. Could I just dublicate a original window and make it slide as the original. Or is polycarbonate not the right material for that. _________________ 937 trackday car

If you make the window go up and down, it will get scratched very badly very quickly. That's why almost all lexan windows are fixed-mounted with a metal frame and counter-sunk screws. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

If you want to use plastic on the wind up windows and are worried about scratching no problem just fit tinting film or smash and grab protective film they are both very scratch resistant and can be replaced if and when the scratches become a problem _________________ 1982 931

FWIW, Percy's Speedglass provide Lexan windows for the 944, and their prices are very competitive compared to GT Racing:

I cannot comment on fit or quality. They do claim that their special coating is highly scratch resistant. I am very seriously considering their door windows (I already have the quarter windows and hatch).
Race Plastics is another site that claims to have side windows for the 924. I haven't inquired of them as of yet, but might be worth checking into:
http://www.raceplastics.com/which_cars.htm
http://www.lamin-x.com/ also have protective films for light covers, lexan windows, and body panels, although nothing specific for the 924/944, so you'd probably have to get a universal roll and cut it yourself.
Regardless, you would need protective coating inside and out, as it is the window scrapers on the upper window sill that will do most of the scratching. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

the design of this style doesnt need a mechanism and the latches and handle stop it from dropping into the door. its a very sound design on this particular car, i'm going to suggest it to AndrewNZ for his targa car.
