Check out the photos of the 931 rally car project at:

Michael and I haven't done much except drop weight from the car and its ground clearance has risen to almost 10 inches in overall height. Michael has hard to find parts such as disc brake dust shields and an under engine cover. These items will be invaluable when racing on gravel.

This car has power windows so when we get the lexan side glass it will weigh 50-60lbs less. A fiberglass hood would be next which would drop another 60 or so off the front of the car. As the interior is stripped now, the roll cage is probably the next thing to buy/install. A full roll cage is heavy so I have an idea to remove the dashboard too. It would allow us to install the cage easier but we would have to fabricate a pod for the instruments. Michael and I will sort it out.Fun.

a gauge pod looks easy to do. a piece of sheet metal or plywood ,a pop rivet gun,and hole saw's the proper diameter for the gauges and some self taping sheet metal screws should get it.if you have speed vision there's a show SHIP SHAPE and they keep showing the episode where they make a fiberglass box and mount the gauges in fairly simple to do, or you could just hang them from the cross bar of the roll cage.

Joes924: No I did not clean up the wheels. The rims on the car now were aftermarket for 924's in the mid 80's according to a fellow Lister.

Email me anytime you want to come and visit.

You could get away with hacking the ends of the dash off, from the inboard edge of the side vents on outward. It'd lose most of it's attachment points to the car, except for the center post, but you could always just zip-tie it to the dash bar. Not a big deal; all the cage bars should be behind the dash anyway, as close to the skin as possible.

You could also try one of the racing dashes GT Racing sells - they are relatively inexpensive, available in fiberglass or CF...

I would love to lose the dash on this car since we'd have to chop it to accomodate the roll cage anyway.I need to consult the rally and autocross rules to see if it is legal. If the dash has to stay, there won't be much of it left. I'll post a thread on some rally sites to get a quick answer.

Turns out that Group 5 rally rules do not have a provision for a dash board and many guys who race in that group took their dashes out. It will be great to rearrange the gauges the way we want them with oil pressure and temp gauges at eye level.
