How do you know it's overheating? If it's 'boiling over' you could have a head gasket that's letting compressions into the cooling system, fooling you. You might have a plugged radiator. You might also just need a good burping. I would use a non-contact thermometer to actually see what the temp of the water neck is when you are heating up.

Mine does the same thing. The thermostatic fan switch worked last time I took it out and tested it, but I'm getting a new one anyway. It should fix it, because it doesn't overheat at all if I bypass that switch. Could it be that an air bubble or something in the radiator would prevent it from working properly?

Turn signals, fan and horn all have relays on the block above your fuse panel. I would bet thats your problem. Check the ground first then the block. Then the relays themselves the haynes manual gives the procedures.

Maybe the engine needs a coolant flush. Air in the coolant system can cause problems, but if your fan is working maybe the coolant is too old. Remember to ad half coolant and half water to maximize its properties.

The fan should have a constant 12 volts to it and the switch completes the ground. You should be able to bypass the switch by connecting the two switch wires and your fan will turn on. If not you are not getting 12 volts to the fan (check your relay and fuse) or you have a bad ground coming off the switch. BTW is you new switch 75C or 83C?

I thought the switches only come in 82C or the standard 92C. I'm getting an 82 degrees one because it's kinda warm here in California.

I think there is a relay for the radiator fan. It is located on the top left corner of the relay panel when viewed from the front. It's right next to the fuel pump relay, which has an extra thing sticking out on it.

Another thing you should check is the connector that plugs into the radiator fan motor. If it's like mine, it's really close to the alternator pulley, and if the engine shakes enough it can hit it and knock it loose or cut through one of the wires inside.

there is also a resistor you should check also on pre 78 its mounted by the temp switch. 79 and on its mounted under the dash drivers side. If you go to the tech section theres a great section on fans.
