Lawerance and I have discussed the mega squirt idea , of course the electronics are allowed if they fit in the original box for fuel injection , our experience is that we drive at the back of the scca pack so no one will ever question what we do , I think that the scca wil not ever let the Porsche cars be competitive like they were in the early days , the Eric Madden victory {914 }while well fought was a fluke of wrecks , nascar type rubbing and the poor sportsman ship shown throughtout the scca nationals , while I am old and slow and not rich enough to build a car to have someone with no brains in a honda wreck my car , I still say that two thoughts are for sure as John Brown says SEat Time , and f--- the scca rules they will never look under your hood unless you win the nationals the a-- do not know what a porsche engine is , I have a ita , ep 924s logbook that list the engine at 1991 cc changed it myself in pencil to 2.479 . so unless you guys get on the podium a lot just build it and have fun The rich guys cheat like hell anyway Jesse _________________ jesse wall 'new driver' , 87 924s |

I hate to admit it, but there is a lot of truth behind this; if you're not going to get to the podium, you won't have to worry much about protests (and, therefore, legality). OTOH, doing something that isn't reversible and makes your car illegal could be a major PITA if you later have a more pressing need to be legal (as in, start getting to the podium).
It also pays to know your audience; some areas, such as my local track, protests are very rare. OTOH, different run groups at different tracks may be a totally different scene. Jesse, you may be fine running like that in Regionals, but might get shot down the first or second time you try running a National (if you do). Likewise, I'm not sure what the SCCA Regional ITB scene will be for me; last time I headed out, I was at the back of the pack in ITA. I do wonder if I'll face a higher probability of protest if I go out and start taking some credit in the bigger SCCA Regionals.
I don't recommend running an illegal car, don't get me wrong, but I do know that sometimes it's a lot easier and/or cheaper to run outside the rules. It takes a lot of work to stay legal, and if you're just trying to get the beast on track... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Well you have a good point , but as I am not even a fast regional driver , and the only way I would get to nationals is to buy a ticket. The idea is to drive to have fun and not worry too much about every dotted I and Crossed T in the book . What I guess we were talking about is to try to run a cheap system that would give dependable service cars still would be away from podium . The it rules say that you have to use orginal box , well the 2.5 l cars have a box of course for motronic system , the mega squirt would be programable and surely legal , the 2 liter cars have a box also on the drivers side under hood , why would it not be ok to use this for megasquirt? Of course the mechanical aspect would be" enhanced" but you would still be using the stock "box" Anyway just a thought , truely hope the playing feild gets level enough so you guys get a fair shake. Jesse ps I never had anyone I know of protest a front engine porsche down here, the 6 cly BMW cars are on another lap halfway through the race anyway _________________ jesse wall 'new driver' , 87 924s |

I have looked at this very closely and putting the MS in to the Montronic box is perfectly legal. BUT the GCR sais you can not add any additional lines to the "Box" and to make the MS work you have to run a vac line to a MAP sensor in the MS from the manifold. This then makes you illegal.... . . So how do you get around this you ask well there is always Alpha-N. Running the MS in Alpha-N eliminates the need for a MAP or AFM this configuration with the MS in the Montronic box should work and would be legal in SCCA IT rules.
We racers will always prevail over the rules _________________ Respectfully

Yes it can be done we use to put DTA e-48's in the motronic case as allowed by the rules. On a n/a car the map sensor is not really necessary on the track. just switch to 2 dim and map rpm vs Load _________________ 928 gts prototype

Jesse, you may also consider using the new "Micro Squirt" http://www.microsquirt.info/
It is the size of a credit card and the MAP is mounted off board so nothing but more wires rather than a vacume line.

You could also just put the MAP outside the box on a regular megasquirt installation. The microsquit has the amp connector, so it might be tougher to fit inside a small box heightwise.
