Looking throught the previous posts it looks like a few people have experience in body/paint work. Anyone have any suggested reading material on body work prep and painting?

I don't know any books beside the text books from when I went to school 13 years ago. If you need some specific information I can help you out though.

I am going to do some body and paint work on my race car this winter (quarter panel, new rear flares, doors and hood). I have done prep for painting i.e. sanding and masking but have never had to do any repair work before hand. The quarter panel needs to be cut out and replaced, the remaining body panels should only need prep and paint. So I was just looking for a good source for information on general body work to get me pointed in the right direction. I also need advice on painting equipment. In the past I have had a friend shoot the car and would like to try it myself. And if everything goes OK I might try doing a little body work on my street toy, '87 924S. Thanks for any informaiton you can offer.

You know it would be really neat if you hung out with us here and posted pictures of your project Id like to see flares added on and stuff, painting is easy really just buy a good gun . I have the jge suction feed by devilbiss ,good equipment is 1 of the keys.
just mix it up like the directions say and there you go, talk to a paint store on mixing
I have used ppg[base &top coat} in the past its $$$ the new paint on my 924 was purchased from nappa not as much....$

Don't really think to many would be interested in seeing my race car project posted here, it's not a Porsche. I am using the race car for practice before I tackle the work on the 924S. I do remember purchasing PPG paint for the race car originally. It's Chevrolet Victory Red same as the 1993 1/2 ton pickup I was dragging the race car around with at that time. I do remember the PPG was expensive but the friend I had shooting the car didn't recommend anything else. It still looks good considering the abuse the paint has taken on the track, except for the beat up doors and fender flare that was removed by none other than a 944 . The 944 had nothing more than a few scratches.
