Hey Guys! Happy Thanksgiving.

I just bought an '88 944 Turbo. Non-S version. I can't belive the extra power. I'm test driving it on the highway this morning with the current owner and I check the speedo because I'm passing everyone quickly-- We're doing 100mph!!!!! Smooth and quiet.

Now I just have to put an intercooler in the 931. Don't eat too much turkey.

Excellent! What kind of speed differences are there between the two cars?

Is there more lag? The bigger displacement and position of the turbo....or is it about the same as the 931 for response?

It feels more powerful from the start but still pretty docile. It feels like the power comes on a little later than the 931. There's no feeling of the suden rush then that almost imperceptible climb to speed like the 931. In the 951 boost comes on without a lot of fanfare; you know it's there because the boost guage is right below the tach. I unintentionally had it up to 100mph in what felt like just a few seconds. The whole package is just a bit more refined.
Each step up the hereditary Porsche line is perceptibly more developed. I started with a nice 914. Pretty light-weight and uncivilized, giving the driver a feeling of being part of the machine (except during a missed 1st to 2nd shift that ends up in 4th!). Lots of noise behind your head but stuck to the road.

Next was the '82 931. Heavier but very much more civilized and fast with almost double the HP. The 914 feels kind of anemic after the 931. I don't get that feeling between the 931 and the 951. It's just got a more luxurious feel to it. Porsche just smoothed out the 931's rough edges.

All this just from a single half hour drive! I hope I've done the right thing. It was one of those deals that comes along that you just can't pass up. Now I just have to figure out how to fit this car payment into the budget. I aint selling the 931 right now so I think it'll have to be the 914.

Happy Thanksgiving

Yeah so the 951 is more of a cruiser, good for commuting. The 931 to me feels like a bucket with four wheels (racecar), maybe the 951 actually feels more like a car...
