while i'm waiting for the go bits to get done (waiting for a friend to come over and do a compression test and leakdown test), I thought i might have a try with some show bits!
i took the charge tube off with the intention to clean it but it was painted light grey and was flaking so i decided to strip it.
(these pics taken on phone- bad lighting)

After cleaning the stripper off, i tyhought why paint it when i could try polishing- my first attempt at polishing so i thought why not. i used about 5 scotchbrite pads on a air drill to take off the dimpled texture. i then used a fine sandpaper to smooth it out abit before polishing.

i took the oil cap and sanded it down and painted it in high-temp silver/ aluminium.
i need to get some silvo to polish up the charge tube, should i seal in clearcoat? i would need high temp stuff wouldnt i?

i've taken the cam cover off to freshen up. its been painted black and is looking worse for wear. i was suprised when i removed, it looks quite fresh under there. the guy who i bought the car off on behalf of his friend (who was in England) said that the car had had a $NZ10,000 engine rebuild. As he had no receipts i took that with a grain of salt but soon after when buying a few bits from Europacific Ltd in Te Awamutu, the guy who runs the place, Steve Rasmussen said he knew the car and they'd done a lot of work on it. I wish i pressed for more info, reckon they would still have paperwork on it??

Wow , definitely don't drive until you replace the tube. Never had this kind of trouble on my cars (*knock on the wood*), the plastic elbow had been broken though. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Yep, not only last two lobes, where the tube doesn't exist, are starving of oil, but the other ones too, because of no oil pressure in the tube. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Ive never had one of them brake though Ive had the intake come loose down the oil pan because I didnt use lock tight. If you want to clear those parts thated be fine just a note 'Look for high temp clear coat paint." _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I had mine break off in exactly the same spot, but thankfully I had a replacement from another head available to me. Now I just have to get another elbow, since both of mine are cracked. I believe they are available from porsche for cheap.. _________________ '80 931 FOR SALE

My thought is that it's better to fabricate one (elbow) of your own from Cu metal tube: cut on 45 degrees and solder them together and apply it with flexible oil resistant silicone. More flexible and no worries, not original part though _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Joe if you're talking about the elbow breaking when I took the oiler tube out, then yes you would e correct. However, if your'e talking about the oiler tube itself, no, that broke entirely on its own _________________ '80 931 FOR SALE

thats a bummer wonder if you drove it for awhile like that.
Seems it would of got caught up in the valve train movement.
so raceboy you say you think its ok to do away
with the elbow and just use oil resistant suilicone. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
