Since my car is nearly the same age as I am I can only guess where the resale value of these cars went into the "buyers market". Lets face it, the junker 924's are slowly meetimg the fate as parts cars and as many of you may have read in May's issue (I think) the 924 are becoming more rare. We as owners of these fine automobiles ultimately dictate the selling price...not the buyer. There is no reason these cars should be selling for the same price as an old ford 1/2 ton. When I finish my restoration/V8 swap I will not sell the car for under $20,000 CDN. I am sure everyones first reaction is NOT WITH A CHEV ENGINE...but I have seen some exotics on Barret Jackson's auction that swapped for Chev and Ford V8's that grabbed a higher price than stock cars of the same model. My big issue is there are alot of great body/wheel/engine upgrades that can be done. One shouln't hold back from improving the looks, handling or performance of your car in fears of losing money when you decide to sell. I for one am going to stand firm on how I value my car and I hope some of you who obviously adore your own cars to do the same.

If the majority of 924 owners refuse to sell for insulting prices it raises the bar to higher level of value. I get the impression by the 4 word responses you guys have posted you don't grasp the concept. Well I am sure some of 924 944 931 owners do.

Yes, absolutely.
The price of 924/931 appear to have increased slightly over the last year in UK, I was looking last autumn and GOOD ones were going for average of £2000, but right now there aren't that many decent examples for less that £2500 - £3000. However things aren't helped by an article in '911 + Porsche world' that states decent 924's are £1000, and runners can be had for £500. This is incorrect and sure to lower the values. IN any case the car featured was a shed !
The flip side of all this is that don't we all have 924's 931's Because they are good value ??, otherwise wouldn't we all rush out and buy 951's ??

I bought my car for $2000, and had to put a new clutch in almost immediately, but otherwise it is a great car in great condition. I have easily put another several hundred into it in new tires (Dunlops), Techron products, and interior parts (visor clips, sunroof pieces, etc). I am also thinking about new paint, and am doing new upholstery and at least a dash cover. People who don't know about Porsches give me compliments and think my car is far more expensive than it really is. Why would I sell my car for next to nothing? I love my car... the only car I have owned that was anywhere near as fun was my 70 Bug that I sold for $3500...
My car is a 1982 924 (non-turbo). In another three years I can get classic plates! |

Just currious...what is your cars VIN? Where are you located. Have you registed your car here?
My car is also a 1982 NA 924, but it is not one of the final few built with some of the 944 updates.

no offence guys, but it's the general idea of the 924 that will have to change, if you will sell yoru car for 20 000, the parts will also have to go up..look at the 928s, their resale value is much higher than 924s, because parts are more expensive. It's also the whole attitude that has to change, for example cheap and free used parts on this site...a 911 owner would never give away cheap or free parts on a 911 site, but 924 people do, that will have to change if you want your car worth 20 000 dollars.

If you have done to your own car what I have done to mine you would feel the same. I'll tell you what I've done Completely stripped the car to bare shell. Stripped all 10 layers of paint, fixed all of the dents from the past 24 years, updated to a 944 front lower valance, installed boxed rockers (with an extra modifacation of my own), installed rear lower wrap around valance (hides spare tire & looks cool , hand built 968 style wing for hatch, 17x7.5-17x9 C2 turbo wheels, custom interior, new carpets, 375hp 327 vette engine and 5 years and counting in spare time. That to me is worth something. Plus I feel now I will never sell it.

If is isn't original or a rare version is will never be worth much if you "personalise" it.

whenever you restore a car or personalize a car, you do it for yourself, because you'll almost never get as much out of it as you put into it. plus if 924's sold for high prices then people would stop buying them, which in turn would lower the price. there's a lot of cars dying away to the junk yard, but if people wanted them bad enough to pay a high price then they wouldn't have let them go to waste to begin with.

I hate to say it but how many times have you seen ads in the local Car Trader saying 'spent 20k will sell for 10k'???
The car is, will be and always has been the worst financial investment going, 2nd only to last years stock market.
Just keep it and enjoy it and, if you really want to make money, ask Larso how.

I have to agree w/Dwak. Keep it, enjoy it, personalize it or keep it stock, whatever. If you can manage to keep it long enough, in decent shape, it may be worth at least a little more than you paid for it someday. But the important thing is that you enjoy the car.
