Well some of you know that we purchased a horse truck to use to transport and house our 2 924's. We've been working on it for a couple of months and this past weekend we started to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
To review, our plan was to build a lift using four support I Beams and ramps from an old Ryder trailer. The lift would raise and lower by way of two winches, one lifting the front of the car and one lifiting the rear of the car on two I beams that run perpendicular to the four support beams.
Once the first car was secured on the lift and raised all the way up to the roof line then we would winch the other car in and park it underneath the lift. There is about 2 inches (maybe less) clearence between the lift and the bottom car but the important thing is that they both fit it nicely.
On Sunday we took the loaded truck out for a test run to see if it would all hold together. We drove on side streets, on the highway, over pot holes, uneven road surfaces, rail road track, etc and there was no problem. The lift worked perfectly and the cars didn't shift at all!!!
We still have a lot of work still to do but the biggest hurdle is over with. Next we need to custom make a canopy to hang on the outside of the truck. Were thinking 16X40 would do the trick. Eventually we'd like to turn the front part of the truck into a living area complete with a bed, sink, stove toilet, etc. The remaining space we have to work with is going to be tight but we think we can fit a lot of gear in it and all our spare tires, etc.
Were shooting for the July 10th race to debut the truck. No pictures of it yet because we've been so busy working on it.
A big thank you to Vaughan Scott for coming up with the name of our truck!!
