Hey, if the planets line up just right and everything magically falls into place suddenly, the guy might suprise himself one day by getting your car back together and running. If so, you'll still have to take it to a real mechanic for a good looking over. Actually, given the incompetence the guy has displayed, you probably should try to show up with a real mechanic to give the car a good physical before handing over any money and driving it away. I've mentioned this before, but before I bought my car, I showed up on the lot with a cylinder leakdown tester, small air compressor, extension cord, compression tester, vacuum gauge, tools and I used them all. Created a small scene complete with curious onlookers, but I got it checked out good. So don't be shy about that. Of course, even with a good checking over, there can be things wrong that won't become noticable problems for months or years. I don't want to give you nightmares, but given some of the ideas/approaches for repair he has mentioned, I can just imagine this guy doing completely wacky stuff like shoving a screwdriver in through the spark plug holes to try and push the pistons out the bottom of the cylinders and scratching cylinder walls and who knows what. Hopefully that's just my imagination running wild. Anyway, what if you do get it back and running good then it all turns to crap months or a year down the road? You're not going to want to take it back to him to continue this saga and you'll have handed over all that money... If this is possible, I would leave him with the car, tell him in writing you've lost all confidence in his work with his ridiculous explanations and plans for repair, with one thing, then another turning to crap in his hands and get your money back with the help of the attorney general if necessary. Do everything that will look fair and reasonable to a judge hearing your side. In case these posts might someday end up being read aloud in a courtroom, remove any references to throwing the man from a plane or setting the car on fire or even just letting the guy continue to work on the car when you don't intend to take and pay for it. Just imagine the embarrassment and damage these kinds of things would do to your case. Let the mechanic be the idiot and you be reasonable and rational.

thank you smoothie, and all for your input. Im patient with the car cause its not my primary and all in all im juggling 3000 dollars around. theres a lot worse things in life than losing 1500 beans. I bought the car knowing the risk. theres other 924s out there. maybe even a 944, and i have to wait till i make Captain till i can buy a 911

we'll see how he handles this when i go down there next friday to talk. if the car runs for a year without the engine exploding while driving down the road i'll be happy.

you cant buy a car and not expect to lose money. they are not investments. just something to toy with. I regret losing it to him though.

well see what happens on friday. Ive been no stranger to surpises througout this ordeal

Or maybe Click and Clack. They'd probably get some mileage out of it on their show.

Good luck.

Well, if sick comic relief might help right now, remember this: You can comfort yourself that you've learned a helluva lot in a short amount of time, and if that costs less than three (3) grand, what the heck, at least it'll happen differently the next time.*

You guys crack me up, its not Friday yet! Okay, the anti-christ himself said my car would be done this week. I'll give him till late thursday before i show up at his garage to personally check on the car. Im actually hoping he'll call tomorrow. He seemed to shrug off the oil pump as 'no big deal' car will defiantly be ready by Friday. I drove by and saw the car up on the lift today. However, there was no one underneath it

Its FRIDAY!!!
...went to get my car today...yeah. you got it, still not done. I guess Porsche 924 oil pumps are in short supply in North America as he told me that they were back ordered and the dealer was waiting to get it from Germany?! WTF?!!!!

so i simply nodded my head turned around and left. no words exchanged by me.

I got back to the office, called the local porsche dealership and without even putting me on hold the guy said, "oh, we have one coming in, they are on back order i can have you one in a week or two".

so, i saw the car, its missing the oil pump. i guess its just to be expected at this point. maybe next week the bolts will be on back order.

im not sure when this will hit rock bottom...

You've already hit rock-bottom and started to dig.

When are you gonna pull the plug on this idiot???

I could say rude things like grow a pair and face this guy down, but that wouldn't help, only aggravate. He's clearly hopeless. You'd be out less if you dragged it home ($40 towing?), bought a junkyard motor ($200?), and re-ringed it yourself ($400 plus machine shop costs).

It's not that hard. Except for him.

I know of other people that developmentally disabled, but most of them work at Ford in Engineering...

Oh, yeah, and I haven't replaced an oil pump yet. Haven't had to.

When are you going to wise up and grab the remains of the 924 out of the idiot's shop?

From what I can tell, the oil pump is going to cost you alot more the $200 that you wrote about 2 weeks ago. Did you get a firm price from your (I use the term loosely) mechanic?

So heres what happened guys…
I get a call last week, my company will be initiating pilot recalls soon dictating that in order for me to remain competitive when I go back through training I was required to move to Florida for aircraft currency reasons.

So in about a three day time span I packed my truck and started driving south.

My brother, my apartment, 90% of my stuff and ONE 1982 Porsche 924 left in Lancaster behind me. No I just took off, didn’t even tell the mechanic (using the term loosely) I left the title there so my brother can sign it over if I need to. The guys STILL HASN’T called the cell number I left him. The way my company looks so far it will be about 3-6 months before I get back up to my base in the Northeast.

So I’m not really sure what I’ll do with this. Maybe just let the time pass and see what happens. I miss that car, it was so much fun. But from the looks of things the 924 will take a back seat to my career until I get back up there. Maybe the car will still be there for me or maybe an upgrade to a running and fully inspected 944?

So that’s the scoop guys. I really wish I had driven the car more while I had it. I sure do miss it.

Take care all, I’ll drop in when I can

JUST WHEN YOU GUYS THOUGHT I WAS GONE FOR GOOD AND YOUD NEVER SEE THIS TRHEAD AGAIN!!!
-new water pump, new head gaskets, new head, new high volume oil pump, new main bearings, new exhaust seals.

my paitence, and having a freind (attorney) who walked in there today paid off... My bill as stated was $1900 for a $1500 car with a big fat dent. this whole ordeal had taken well over two months.

the results are in. The car as we speak is on its 180 mile trek to NJ from PA. guy got me my car back, for 900 bucks, and we called it even. Needless to say the mechanic is pretty pissed off but all it took was records of what happend (mostly from the log i kept here), patence, pissing off the mechanic haveing him freak out by knowing i left town and could give two $hits about the car.

My 924 is being delivered down to FL in the near future where it will live as i hold a job that will support not whoring myself out to maintain it.

well guys, just wanted to put a post here, and tell yall my little dream car from hell is alive and running better than ever. lets see how long. I'll post pictures after the doors fixed and its delivered to FL VIA trailer.

talk soon, i'll start keeping a closer eye on the boards again.

Kevin
