| yeah Stu looks like the best way is to use an impact gun. Or soak down with some pb nutbuster or any equivelent good quality pentrating oil, and crank away with a half inch drive ratchet /socket and wrench on the other end to hold the nut on the other side. |

Well, I didn't have an impact wrench and it was a lot more than two beers
The first bolt came loose with some serious effort. There were essentially no threads beyond the nut and it took some real effort in a hard to work space to get it off.
The second bolt head simply snapped off after some tugging on it. At first, I was happy about it but the damn thing didn't snap clean and it took some effort to pound the sob back through the hole.
Ok, bumper off after some tugging and then.. oh horror! They have welded the hitch to the bumper shocks! Damn. Then I notice something that had been hidden many years. This car had been hit! The tow hitch was bowed in toward the car. Crud. No big deal.
Ok, no big deal until I tried to pull out the entire unit (remember the shocks are welded to the hitch). The fact that it had been hit put some pressure on the shocks and they weren't just sliding out. FINALLY, got the damn thing off.
I was about ready to come in and post a message that I needed more bumper shocks when (just for giggles) I tried (hammer and chisel) to get the shock off the hitch. Damn if the weld didn't just crumble without a lot of effort. Keeping my fingers crossed, I tried the other one and the same thing happened. Finally, some luck.
Cleaned up the shocks and the bumper and the whole thing went back together in minutes.
So much for getting the power antenna in today
Here's a photo of the friggin beast...
