i went to the shop for a look see and here is a list of what they have done to fix my engine problem:
1. repaired/cleaned a fuel line
2. replaced 2 injectors, cleaned the others
3. adjusted the valves
i wasn't able to drive it today, but he said that the compression in #1 was now reading 165 after the valve adjustment. he thinks it should be ready by tomorrow. total is 325.00 including labor. i know exactly how to recreate the engine problem so it won't be hard for me to tell if they completly fixed it, but since the #1 is firing strong then they have at least fixed part of it. wish me luck.

car update. i called the mechanic about my car. he said the engine has good compression now, said this last week as well, and that it is holding strong so there is no bad valves or pistons/rings but he can't seem to get the idle adjusted right. he said that after the car warms up the idle problem goes away and they make the necessary adjustments but once the car cools down and they restart it the idle is rough once again. he believes that there is something else wrong somewhere in the fuel system, since it sat for so long i was told 6 months when i bought it but the last time this car was registered was in 1996, and they have not been able to track it down yet. he mentioned a possible gummed up fuel distributor. i am really not sure if they will find the problem as it has been 2 weeks now and he didn't sound very confident as to knowing what was wrong. this has me a bit worried. he asked to keep the car another day so they could continue to run fuel cleaners through it. i didn't see it being a problem. i would let him keep it longer if i really thought he would be able to find the problem. i am really curious as to how it drives now that the compression has been fully restored. the car has always idled bad since i got it and although it would be nice to have it idle smooth on startup that was not the reason i brought it in, although i had hoped that it would have been fixed with restoring the compression ( correlated ). Maybe by tomorrow the cleaners will have done their magic or he is able to find the true culprit.

| probably warm up regulator if it happens for a few minutes when cold. If only a few seconds, cold start. If pressing and holding the gas pedal down a bit at idle eliminates the problem completely, the aux air valve. |

| My car was having idle issues at start up also. When I started the car first thing in the morning it would idle rough and it was difficult to keep running. After about 5 minutes it idled fine and I had no problem. I replaced both the Warm-up regulator and the Auxiliary air valve. After that, the car ran fine all the time. |

Same thing with mine. Would start up real bad until I reved the car up. Replaced the WUR with a used unit and now the car starts smooth... but takes a lot more cranking to get it going. Think I will get a new unit along with new injectors soon.
Still having the hesitation below 3200 or so though.. DOUGH!

Same as mine aswell, i replaced the aux air valve but no change at all. I still have the low idle problem at cold start but is fine when the car is warm.
I have just picked up a used Warm Up Reg the other day from my mechanic but have not had time to put it in yet. Hopefully tomorrow!!
I really hope this fixes the problem!! |
