Actually it's attached to the same line that happens to lead to the brake booster and this works fine. To screw things up you could do something like attach downstream of either of the check valves you see in the picture (the pale blue pieces seen to the right). The connections shown are upstream of all check valves and amount to a direct connection to the intake manifold.

I just saw a pic of the DITC box behind the radio. Looks like there's a vaccum line to it. Can we tap from it? After all, it's a lot closer to the center console where the gauges are mounted.

The best place to measure boost is the port for your overboost pressure switch.

Hello Numbbers! How about using the link to the DITC unit behind the radio? I believe a line can be tee'ed off from there? Won't that be closest to where the gauge would be?

Just a thought.

If you want a nice easy install, use the small tube on the side of the throttle housing.

Cut the tube, insert a t-piece, you can pass the tube from your boost gauge through next to the engine wiring.

Its how I've connected my boost gauge and turbo timer and they both work perfectly.

regards

Mike.

Sprint, I have an '80 so I don't have the DITC unit. Can't help you there.

Does this affect the turbo timer?

As far as I'm aware it doesnt affect the turbo timer, as long as it has a pressure signal it calculates run down time for the engine.

It seemed like the easiest place to connect in and get a reading.

Mike.

Someone with a hook-up like numbbers has could verify this, but I recall hearing that tapping off a point before the throttle shows boost spikes that occur in the piping between the turbo and the throttle each time the throttle is closed quickly. This would be a different effect you'd get hooking up before instead of after the throttle. If you have just a boost gauge, it could be hooked up either before or after. A combo boost-vacuum gauge would have to be hooked up after the throttle to include the vacuum reading.

Yep, I see the boost spikes, they will peg the meter. Also, you are right, I don't see vacuum on my guage, only boost. Of course, since I use the guage to ajust my boost controller, that is what I am interested in.

Gosh.. This is advanced! How does the turbo timer decide the run down time? Mine is just a swtich for either 1 or 3 mins. I'm interested in getting one like your so I don't have to bother to crack my head over it....

Thanks.
