filling the arches isn't that big a deal
remember the 944 uses a 23 mm offset to get the rim out to the edge of the fender. there are 11 and 15 offsets for porsche rims
of course your just wide tracking the car if you only use 6 inch rims but if you went the wide body look you would want to change the suspension to the late offset 944 and be able to use all the 17 and 18 rims out there.
and a 8 or 9 would look mighty good under there
if you stick with the early offset you are limited to 15 inch and a few 16 inch rim styles that are wide enough to make a difference.

I would go with those but I think they would hold too much sludge in them in the winter or in a muddy situation, see i love the performance of the car but it has to be able to drivable as well
