Pull the head you donr need a picker you can lift it off, take oof the injector lines or pull the injectors they if you havnt taken them out befor just loosen and dissconnect the lines mark the lines though. clean the under side of the head like get a wire wheel and stick it in a drill. clean it up real goos all that carbon off there, then put each piston at the top and clean all the carbon off of it becareful not to scratch any of thr cylinder walls though. clean up the deck real well.. find someone you can trust to tell you if your valves are bad
like if there burned or melted then you need a new valve or at least a valve job..
You should get a compressioin tester you take out a spark plug screw in the compression tester and crank over the motor
writ down the reading on the guage crank the motor over around oh 10 times or untill it wont go any higher do this to every cylinder. this will tell you of a suspected stuck valve or tight valve check that cyl. when you remove the head lastly get a regular gasket you dont want to mess with a copper one.I made my own intake gasket if you can handle the lift dont take it off.

Now would be a good time to port and polish and think about headers and a cam though.

just kidding.
