| That is the distributor and it is on the passenger side of the car (this is a US spec car). This is a 924S, 944 running gear. Not the 2.0L in the regular 924. |

Oh stop it Itgland - we all know that you know your passengers sit on the wrong side of the car.
Nice pics! (but use a flash for the engine and interior shots) |

| I did it all myself. I used PPG basecoat/clearcoat paint and took it to the zinc coating all over. Total outlay was $1400 and 60-70hrs. |

| No offense to the person who owns the blue 924 in the picture on the top of this website, because I have yet to see a 924 that I didn't like.....but I think this car should replace that picture. Anyone else agree? The red paint is so rich looking. |

| I think that it should be replaced by a pic of 924racers car as that is a nice rave car or a completely stock one |

Nice paint job! You interested in doing my 88 924s? Well maybe no where near the extreme of yours but a nice basic black and removing the small dings. I'd like to vote yes for changing the pic also on the top also. Perhaps change on a monthly basis? Who do we ask about that? 924racr?

| I agree...remove the blue, put in the guards red. I must say, that your red 924S is cargasmically beautiful. I like what you did on the window frames to make them black again. what did you use? also, do you recommend attempting to re-spray the front if you have never done it before? (please say no...I don't wanna mess it up) last question...if you are in CO anytime soon would you stop by and respray the front of mine? I'll pay....(not for the plane trip of course, but if you are in the area...) |

Folks...Thank you for all of the nice comments!
Honestly I am not the least bit interested in doing this again! I spent many many many hours on this car (maybe even closer to 70 hrs.). On top of that I spent about $1400. Now I know why every place I went to wanted about $5-6,000 for the job! I figured at $50/hr. for 70hrs => $3500 in labor alone. If someone wanted to fork over this kind of jack I would consider!!!! Otherwise, repaints are best left for professionals...IMHO.
carnut280,
If you have never repainted a car before I would not suggest that you try it unless you know how to color-match and blend. Also, on a 924S the window trim is black from the factory. I just refreshed it a little with SEM low gloss black spray paint.
Thanks again all,
Jason |

what do you think of maaco by the way? they can give me a cheap job, i just want to know if it'll be any good. i'm doing the prep myself.

| I got an estimate from Maaco here in NJ a couple years ago. To do it the way I'd do it myself - strip the hood and top, prep, primer, metallic color, 2 part polyurethane clearcoat, it came to $800usd. The job they advertise on tv is way cheaper. I'm sure you get what you pay for. |

For that sort of money, I would expect full body work, complete smoothing of the metal and so one.
I have done paint in the past, and it's pretty easy. The simple trick being to be patient. Very patient, go slowly, make sure you do it evenly and give it lots of time to cure between coats. A quick media blast down to bare metal, degrease, prime, cure, prime, cure, degrease, paint, cure,(repeat for desired effect) marine clear coat(auto clearcoats are governed by different standards, and are much softer and easier to scratch). Then you polish. And polish some more. While you're at it, you might as well polish a bit. Then, after a long time polishing, you get to polish some more!
The point I'm trying to make is, the make or break step is polishing. A perfect paint job will look horrible if it's badly polished, and vice versa with a mediocre paint job that is honed to perfection. |
