I know it sounds the obvious but have you tried lowering your tyre pressures all around, that will give you more grip in the snow for sure and is worth trying before splashing out on another set of tyres.

Actually, I've gotta agree with Larso on this one. I work 12 hour night shifts an hour down the freeway from where I live and one night this last winter a freak snow storm (we usually don't get snow that bad in Washington) left me with the scariest hour-plus-long drive home in the morning I'd ever had. It really pissed me off when '78 Escorts and buckets like that were cruising by me completely stable (maybe they had a chance to put snow tires on before they left). I had to keep it under 35. If I gave the car a little throttle, the whole car would shift to the side, PERPENDICULAR to the way I was going! (Rear-wheel drive thing). I would wait for no one else to be around and had some fun with it. Of course, I was running my street z-rates and even had them at high psi to counter stiff steering. So my own dumb fault.

I did drive a volvo with no alignment (RWD, summer tires on front, studs on back). The alignment was so off that the steering wheel was amost 90 degrees. This car handled better than the 924...so I'm still kind of confused here.

I just got my 931 back from the engine work and the alignment sucks, and my rear tires are bald.

I saw two minivans stuck upside down in the recent snowstorm here in Ontario.

The car didn't handle wonderfully. But again, my alignment is out and the rear tires (rain tires) are bald. I was wishing for my 924 with winters...

Lars: Stop bitching.
