Hey frisky...whassup with all of the accessories? seems kinda ricey...I don't understand the need for all that stuff. Pay so much, only to make it look like it's from the Fast and the Furious. Oh well... not my call. I like my Porsches stock... At least tell me you don't have a lighted tail pipe...or even worse, a lighted windshield washer nozzle...

How is it you guys are mounting speakers in the front doors?? I looked at my door today and I have about 3/4" clearance to the glass and besides that my power window controls come out of the factory speaker hole. Even if I use spacers the shallowest speakers I could find were still about 1.5" which means I'd have to use a ridiculously large spacers.

carnut - i don't have a lighted tail pipe. lots of neon though.
azndrgn - my speakers are 2 1/8" deep and they almost fit inside my door. i will need about a half inch spacer i think.

oh and carnut - about wiring stuff. if you pull the carpet back you can wire anything your heart desires. it was easier to wire my car than my pickup. i don't have a clue why they say you need to remove the hatch. why?

actually they do not need to remove the hatch, but the small windows in the rear...I dunno...it seems to me like they are just usin that as an excuse, but I have been told that by many many car stereo stores. When I looked back there for myself, it seemed to me that the rear upholstry tucks nicely below the window glass, so to move it to gain access to the speakers, the glass must be removed. I have not tried, so I am not sure. I'll look at it more in-depth than I have, and maybe even try it. (unless it has to deal with removing the windows, then I'll leave it to the pros, so if I break something, I don't have to pay for it outa my pocket.) I'll defenatly consider re-wiring the speakers myself tho. thanks frisky.

Anyone have any pictures of the door speaker installations? I'm kinda confused about where you all are mounting these speakers. The inside of my door only allows me about 3/4" to the window, so unless I just never open the windows I don't see a way to mount any speakers. If you all have any pictures I'd love to see them.

about the wiring - i think you're going about it the wrong way - if you simply remove the carpet on the sides in the hatch you'll find some holes in the sheet metal. if you push your wires up through them, and forward ( i found wrapping the wire around the end of a long screwdriver worked best ) they'll come out on the other side of that hump. then you can access the wires through the 4x6 speaker hole and direct the wires down to the rubber thingy below, where the other wires go through. pull them out, run them under the carpet and runners and stuff, up to the dash and voila, you're there.
worked for me, and i'm an ameteur.

They have to remove the rear quarter glass in order to get the panels out..unless they cut it, but you will never have a nice interior again. They tuck under the window, and if cut they hang out and get warped over time.

I have two 10 inch subs in separate boxes, that will be mounted to a spare seat I have. You can fit boxes in there so that you can fold down the seat. (Mounting the boxes where the back passenger's back would be). I personally think the 924 has a very small trunk, so want to conserve all space possible. I never put stuff under the seats when I have it folded down, so might as well have speakers there.

Vaughan how did you fit a ten inch sub inside the spare wheel well, is it a really shallow box , or did you just stick it on top of the spare wheel well.

Yeah, they're talking about the speakers below the rear windows, and you do have to remove the rear windows to remove the trim properly, without cutting it. It's a real PITA. I wouldn't even bother with those, unless you hog out the holes and put in bigger speakers that will actually do something! 4x6's are worthless, IMHO... I't put in another pair of 6.5"s, but don't find myself needing them!

My door speakers are mounted at the bottom front, below where the manual crank would be if they were manual. When the door is closed, they're just above the door sill. There's a huge round hole behind there, but I did have to cut it out some more to make room.

I'd say putting in new wires for the speakers would be a very good idea... I got a 50' 16gauge spool of speaker wire from Home Depot, about $9, good stuff. Used it to wire my subs.

The dims on my box are 19"x11" wide, 9.5" tall. Fires straight up to the hatch. I had to cut off the spare tire bracket to pop it in there. I had intended to have it fire straight backwards, and clear the spare tire mount, but I was just a hair off on the measurements, so decided I'd rather cut off the bracket than make a whole 'nother one. Still, change that 9.5" to 9" or 8.5", and it would fit without mods. As mentioned, it'll be below the carpet in the trunk area, when I get that. Still waiting on it. I think the volume of the sub box is about 0.8 cu ft.

Both of my sub and amp installations have stressed minimal impact of space useage and so on. The turbo install doesn't take up space other than the spare, and is covered by the stock carpet, so will be secure. The install in the Suburban is minimized to take up as little space as possible, even thought there's plenty of space to be had, since I plan to use that vehicle primarily as my tow vehicle when racing, and so have to have the back full of stuff

Man I must have some weird ass doors. Here's what I see on my door as you are facing the passenger side door from the insided of the car: top left there is a round hole that looks like it would fit a speaker but it is too shallow, bottom left a weird shaped hole(basically looks like access to the power window motor), top right nothing, bottom right there is a hole but nothing can really fit there and plus there is the tray on the door that fits right there. Maybe I have "special" doors.

the speaker hole should be in the bottom forward corner of your door. you should be able to see the window motor through that hole.

No, not special doors. That funky looking hole that you saw that you said looks like it would be for access to the window motor is the one we're all talking about. you might have to open it up a little and you'll need spacers even still. I've had 6.5 splits up there with about a 3/4" spacer ring.

Ok I see the hole you all are talking about now. Still looks too small to me, the power window motor takes up most of the space. Guess I'm just trying to shove too big a speaker into there.

i replaced my interior door panels with what must be a later model porsche 924 or 944. the PO had mounted burrley JBLs in the bottom corners of the doors, with 1.5 inch spacers, but the job was half assed and detracted from the looks. unfortunately the new door panels have rectanglular speaker holes 3 inches above center where the original speaker holes are in my car. after mounting the door panels all i can see is metal where the speakers are now supposed to go. i don't think there is going to be any room to mount speakers in this area even if i hack the door. any idea which model these door panels are from and how the speakers fit in the door?
