Yeah, sounds like you may wish for a used unit... R+P failure is not uncommon in the 944/924S.
...also in snowy Minnesota right now - Baudette!

Not that I'm aware of, but if you drive the cars nonabusively, take care to change the trans fluid, and so on, you should be OK. Mine survive on the race track pretty well...
