speeking of fire and porsches ,I've been wondering about the weak link in the 924's fuel system , namely the rubber connector between the filler neck and the tank , I dont know how bad a wreck is needed to seperate the the neck from the tank , but the idea on being upside down and gas pouring from the tank ,and being above a huge puddle of burning gas would scare the sh! out of me ! nascar has a ball valve to prevent that from happening , whos the supplier , anyone know .
924RACR didnt your take a hit on the gas filler side , how did the connection hold up ? |
I took a king hit (backwards at 80mph+ into a conrete wall )on the fuel filler side and the rubber joint between the filler and the tank held. Right rear of the car is about a foot or two shorter than the left. The thought of a ruptured tank gave me an incentive to get out real quick. However the tank had only moved on it's mounts and I was able to drive the car out of the kitty litter and back to the pits and onto the trailer.
The race car I'm building up took a monumental hit in the back (see http://groups.msn.com/924CarreraGTInfoSite/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=10 ) the tank was buckled but again it hadn't leaked fuel and the rubber joint had held. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,

| yeah I guess the filler door/neck are in a good location, far enough from the rear of the car and protected by the wheel/axle , from getting moved far enough to tear the rubber connection . I guess you would have to be upside down AND take a serious hit right about the filler door ,before you would see damage to the rubber conection . |

| I am saddened to hear about losing a fellow enthusiast. I am sending the Pistole family a postcard with my condolences. |
