FWIW, judging color based on uncalibrated photos made with uncalibrated equipment viewed on uncalibrated monitors in uncontrolled viewing conditions is a completely useless exercise.

Thanks for the paint code!

Here is L93Z as a Porsche color in the DuPont book.

Just posted for people that may be interested, its a debate not a court of law,I paint porsches everyday and I can asure you that I would not paint my martini the wrong colour.Due to the fact that pigment and paint is fresh you will never match 100% regardless whether its police white or Grand prix white,I am very happy with the match I have and confident its the correct colour

So titan white is the correct porsche colour, looks to bright and white(if that makes any sense)grand pix white is slightly darker and has more cream in it

Just as a matter of interest R5R5 polar white was the standard white used on the 924 for the years 76 and 77

EDRED,
Please go back and read the thread. The name "Titan white" was thrown out. It's bad info.

Dick,
Sorry bud. You still don't have a leg to stand on.

I've seen paint code decals in the U.S., Australia, and the UK, and they all say Police White. None say GP white.....not a one.

The only thing I'm waiting for is that missing text on the factory document that was cut off in the copying process !!

Can someone in Germany go to the factory, grab Marc Noack, and get hands on that piece of paper?

Richard is a difficult mann to convince TIm, especially as he has a Martini newly painted GPW!

I do like the reference edredas found in the PET for the use of L93Z, another clear pointer, in my view, unfortunately I can never find it, found the reference to the Martini stripe.

Tim, I never said the name of the color was "Titan White". The purpose of that post was to show that L93Z was used by Porsche.

Glasurit calls the color "White", as does the PET.

PET:
http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/924_USA_76_79_KATALOG.pdf

Pg. 218

"Decorative Film stripe [for] Special Model: White"

"White" is listed as L93Z on page 10.

Compare that to the Sebring edition in the next column, "Special Model: Guards Red".

The Sebring is called "Guards Red", not just Red. This means the Martini color is "White"... which works out since there's a paint code to match.

That Sir, is the best conclusion yet!

Nobbi

I thought Porsche paid people to be historians? What else do they have to do but answer our questions!!!

That is also a good idea. There should be a Volkswagen historian we could contact.

timmay! kenodog is going to tour the factory and museum on his trip for his company coming up shortly Have a look at his thread and make suggestions. Maybe he can check this out as it really seems to bring out the other sides' of members, just a thought looking in from the outside.

Yes I have a freshly painted martini in GPW,and very nice it looks too, really would not worry if I had the only proper white martini, the adding of a police white colour code sticker would sort it,and nobody would ever be able to tell the difference unless they owned a vw van or classic German police car.Seems porsche cut corners and tried to bring the price down with much cheaper paint, van sales were down at the time
