what's the best route to get the wiring to the rear for stereo upgrades. Nothing fancy...Maybe some decent 6x9's and a low watt amp to drive'em in the storage areas at rear. Not to much of an audio buff, just looking to do a minor mod/upgrade to existing sound...I still have trouble on good nights trying to keep the radio on as I really like the sound of the car...any help...I don't feel like pulling the whole interior. I currently have a Blaupunkt RPD 550 single disc unit (with a black face) as close to the original as possible.
I looked through the posts on the sub's and the installs sound as if they will knock your dick in the dirt. too much for me, though. I have been around high pitched engines too long...bass isn't my problem range...I guess compared to those guys I'll sound like the motorcycle in "cannoball run"...Just a high pitched squeal...
Has anyony mounted speakers in the storage areas facing up. I guess I'm lazy and cheap, but it sounds like an option...

run it under the carpet down around the outsides of the seats, it is VERY easy to wire this car up, just not alot of space for subs _________________ 3 928s, |

Oh Yeah! I forgot that the plastic gaurd at the door edge comes up. Sometimes the car is like taking a sip from a fire hose trying to remember all that I have forgoten. What about the speaker install? have you ever seen on like that? Mounted in two fold up pieces on either side of spare. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.

a friend with a 924 has it done so it is very possible, what I did is go to a sound store and get some triagular type speaker boxes and then screw them on top of this board, maybe even get a piano hinge and mount that board down so they don't really move at all _________________ 3 928s, |

I was thinking along those lines. Maybe fabricating some replacment panels for under the carpet and hinging them like a lid of sorts and just putting in some good sound proofing. I might even quiet down some of the rattling (not a major problem) from the aircompressor back there. I just have to play with it to see if the 6x9 will fit in that right side with the comp or I may make some sort of rack in the spare well to hold it. where's a good place to hide an amp? _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.

good places to hind the amp are under dash behind glove box, int back side compartments, spare tire, and if small amp you migh be abel to make a small spacer to lift the seat and put the amp under one of the front seats _________________ 3 928s, |

Thanks. maybe mounted with sealed "riv-nuts" to the wall in the spare well. What is the amount of clearance around the tank. I would hate to turn this into a fuel leak with a stray drill. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.

If the C pillars are what i'm thinking that would require a bit too much fabrication for me. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.

yes on the rear most pillars and it would require abit of fabrication,
Alex Roy this is your new task as you seem to be the best fabbing person _________________ 3 928s, |

| I think the C pillars would be out of the question, there is only about 1" of clearance there. I'd go for the area behind the rear wheel wells. I've seen 6x9's there, and even 8" drivers. It would be VERY easy to just get some wood and some piano hinges and mount the piano hinges along the flange on the inside of the "cubbie", and make a board that goes over the area in the cubbie for the speaker to mount to. |

what about a box that sits right along the back with the subs and speakers facing you, but making it a box that is mounted but can be removed, of course you will want to have a devider inbetween the speakers and subs _________________ 3 928s, |

| I have looked into all of this and talked it over with a good audio guy. Mounting 6x9s in the back won't give u the greatest sound quality. he has hooked up a few 924/944. he said that to get the best quality, kicker plates in the front are the best bet. he also recommended an eclipse sub in the rear because of good quality, loud(if your into that), and small box size. |
