|
|
Just installed new seals (upper and lower) on my 81 and now the sunroof sits up about 1/8" above nrmal. Will it settle as the seals conform or do I need to get a bigger hammer?
Thanks,

You're kidding about the hammer right?
You didn't get the seals on right, or the sunroof would have fit in very close to flush, and tight.
As you already know, the seals are retained on the flanges by a continous metal clip inside of the seal flange.
As you install the seals, don't strecth them there would be a little leftover, even if you didn't stretch them, but if you did stretch them, YOU CAN NOT CUT OFF THE EXTRA LENGTH. Otherwise, as the seal heat cycles it will shrink back down, and become TOO SHORT.
If you did the job right, there should only be about 1.5"-2.0" left. If there is more than that you stretched it, and if there is less than that, you probably didn't get the seals all the way onto the flanges. |

Just kidding about the hammer. I did get them on all the way. There was about 3/4" on the large one to cut off and none on the small seal. I was wondering if I should use a lubricant to help seat them.
BTW does anyone have any spare plastic mounts for the hidden wind visor? Mine disintigrated wen I removed the sunroof. Guess 6 years of hot and cold storage got the best of them.
Thanks,

| Buy new hinges for the wind deflector, they all crack with old age, and you can still buy new ones for less than $30 each. |

Hey, sunroofs are great! In my 16 years of 924 ownership, I must have opened the sunroof at least three or four times. And those leaking seals are great for keeping the carpets and seats clean.

are the no sunroof 924s rare? because it seems like just about everyone has one. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "S"

I think the no sunroof is rare.
also, I don't have a leaky seal on the sunroof, but I do on the hatch, by the rear left side. annoying when washing. but easy to take care of...drips on the seat only. _________________ werd B. |

| The no sunroof cars are rare because the purchasers decided not to pay the cash for the extra option. I guess autos are rare to then, but who the hell wants it. Also the cars with sunroofs are more ridged due to the bracing for the sunroof. |

I used some short pieces of hose on the latches to give a tighter hold. Smoothie,
Thanks for the hose tip. I'll try it when the weather warms up.
