It takes all the fun out of it if there can't be annoying comments
First, I recommend you jump on ebay and track down an owners manual for your car. They sell them all the time for just a few dollars (some even have the nice Porsche cover).
As for the heat. The bottom lever (left = cold -> right = hot). The top right lever is the defrost and the top left lever controls where it blows. All levers should be far left when the A/C is on.
The switches by the console control various options. In most cars at least some of these are simply blanks. The one closest to the driver should control the power mirrors.
Hope this helps. _________________ -Stu

Well in my 924S, the top left lever controls Defrost/not defrost and the top left one controls foot/face vents. and of course, the bottom one controls temp. but as for what you said about the stuff wearing off, it didn't...it never came with labels...it assumes you either know it or have an owners manual to figure it out. but anyway, good luck with your purchase. _________________ werd B. |

top left? top right? tressone95 it might help if you said what year your car is and type of heater control you have.
If it's the early 3 lever control, the top lever controls the speed of the fan (left is low, right is high), the middle lever controls the heater temp (left is low, right is high) and the bottom lever controls where the air goes (left is low - footwell, right is high - windshield and dash vents). Very logical the Germans.
So on the early type defrosting is all levers to the right.
One tip with these early type controls, never ever ever force the levers. If a lever won't move easily stop and make a note to find out why. The mounts for the cables are the worst design I've ever seen and will break if you speak harshly to them. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

I've never even seen such a beast. Didn't realize there was such a dramatic difference in the early cars. What year did they change to the "normal" one that is found in the 82? _________________ -Stu

82 924 models have the early (82-85/2) 944 (two-lever and a dial) ventilation controls in the center console.
81 and earlier 924 cars (76-81) have the three lever ventilation controls i the center console.
76-78 924 cars with dealer install ac usually have the center vents replaced with the "lever type" ac controls. Later 924 cars usually have the ac rotary control inplace of the voltmeter in the center console. |

Two?
Both my 82 924 and my 87 924S have the exact same layout. Three heater control levers and a switch to the left of these to control the fan.
If anyone has a photo of an early 924 console, it would be interesting to see the difference. _________________ -Stu

the controls for the aircon, courtesy of some previous owner.
I removed the aircon but the knobs remain until I find another speaker grill or make another one with mounts for some gauges, perhaps an oil temp gauge. The speaker was deleted years ago. Without something to break it up the whole think looks to ...... brown. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

For comparison (in case anyone is interested)
Here is the later version (this is my 924S but my 82NA has the exact same layout).
It is quite a change. I notice that we sacraficed a gauge for the A/C control. Note the added knob for heater fan speed control. The levers work as previously described. _________________ -Stu

Yes, that is the same heater control I have in my 87. I miss Ophelia but anyway, Stu2j, you have a shiney dash. _________________ werd B. |

""Stu2j, you have a shiney dash.""
I am really lucky to have this 924S. It has low miles and has been VERY well maintained. I just spent a week with the chip repair kit, touch up paint, and decals making the outside of the car nearly perfect to match the almost flawless interior.
Now I'm kinda afraid to take it out of the garage
Oh well, the 924NA is about to hit the body shop for new paint so the "S" will soon get some street time. _________________ -Stu

well it is a beautiful car.
I would be afraid to take it outa the garage too. heh...tell me if this is a good idea...get the 924 from the old ones, the raised badge, not the clear sticker, then follow it with the "S" from the Boxster S or the C4S....I think it'd look cool _________________ werd B. |
