does anyone have or can someone who believes they have a properly working 924 n/a sound files of what it sounds like inside and out side of their car? just so maybe we can start some sort of refernece point for newbies (like myself) to figure out what the engine is supposed to sound like when we are done messing with it... i always feel like its not running right, but i have no point of reference!

great idea. Of course every 924 is going to sound different.
My '79 Aussie NA with no cat and big exhaust (courtesy of the previous owner) sets off car alarms as I drive by and probably sounds very different to a US car with standard exhaust and full pollution gear.
Still, if you know what mods have been done it could be very useful. |

"since I reinstalled windows"
What version? If its 98, it should be plug and pray, unless your sound card is real old. Ususally these things work by magic.
"I dont have sound and my dvd doesnt work this thing is loaded for sound I think the drivers are not showen up in auto.exec and sys. files"
The autoexec shouldnt matter unless you need DOS sound. My puter dont have DOS sounds ever since I rebuilt it.
Right click on "my computer" -> properties -> "device manager"
then "sound, video and game controllers"
all there?
also "control panel" -> multimedia
make sure all them devices look correct

here is my 924 (from when my friend owned it) recorded from outside the car at idle. no cat (shhh.. do not tell the authorities ), and a loud muffler (couldn't tell you the brand).
its pretty loud so the tape was saturated/distorted so i apologize for the lack of sound quality. i was not present for this recording.
here is the same car from inside. probably a couple weeks later. i was present at this time. nevermind the rattling.. shifter was rattling.

Hey Shadowboy,
I have to give your friend a hand.....to sacrifice his tape recorder by dragging it behind the car while driving like that just to get a recording!
Just kidding

hey guys and gals,
anybody else wants to introduce us to the sound of a (properly) running 924?
C'mon, all you need is a tape recorder or a video camera, record it, plug it in to the soundcard, save it as wav or mp3 and upload it somewhere.
I wanna hear some more 924! |

I put a few MP3's on this website:
http://www.geocities.com/knarfartanisa/index.html
The exhaust is pretty much stock except for the fact that the catalytic converters' insides are long gone and the muffler section is an ANSA (not sure if that's stock). The rest is stock - I don't currently have the boost control in service.
Some was recorded from outside the car, some from the engine compartment. Some normal driving, some windouts to 6000 rpm. Download and enjoy!

| Looks like the data transfer limit on that website is getting exceeded. Once that happens, they shut it down for an hour, then I guess someone gets to download until it's exceeded again. Sorry, pretty low-tech. Anyone know where to get some free webspace with a high data xfer limit? In the mean time, I'll look around for some myself. |
