26-27 March 2011 - Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI)

On The The Road Again... And Other Car Songs

Is there a longer, better, more exciting, more demanding road course anywhere in the US of A? Maybe... but not one that we're running on! Special Entry Deadline: 13 January 2011. Payment Deadline: 29 January 2011.

Chump Car at Road America! Seems like a perfect "community project!"

Who's in?!?

That would be a fun community project! I have enough parts to turn the '77 martini car into a viable project car. The martini car has front and rear sway bars, engine and drivetrain are intact. Have a five lug setup for it, a clean gas tank, GT racing spare front fiberglass 944 fenders, and rear is cutup already, but I'm keeping the GT racing rear fenders. Good for early offset wheels, and have a beat up front fiberglass bumper too. I have late offset 16" 928 trashcans that would work too with out of date but good potenza's.

I won't be around in WI till April, but all this crap is undercover and easy access. Car lift would be available too. A weekend of wrenching and there ya go! I have a complete '79 engine for it as a spare too. Have a MIG welder for cage work, but no cage talent included! Or, if someone wants to pick it up and haul it somewhere, that can be arranged as well. Or, if there's enough interest, I might come back early. Then I can haul the car to elkhart with truck and trailer.

One or two more drivers, and a couple crew (and somebody to get the thing running and get the cage squared away) and we're good to go! We even have a built in theme. . .Martini (or some variant).

Anyone else?

Dave, I say DO IT! lol I wish I were closer to you and give you a hand, you have everything that I need/want. I would help you in the pit at elkhart. Maybe I'll have my car running by then.

Alright, there is a custom tube bender in our dinky town of Nelson, WI. He does custom exhaust work for hot rods, etc. And he's cheap, plus he's a very good welder. The martini car should be old enough that it isn't glavanized. I have a couple of EFI fuel rails, braided fuel line, FPR,(looks like summit racing stuff) injectors, I inherited, for EFI if one wants to go that far. Or, the CIS stuff and I have 2-3 of those, should work too. Haroldk and Bealytrent are within earshot, and Trent's dad is an enthusiast as well. So, might have some hands as well for working on it.

Spoil-sport! I had heard that '77 cars were not galvanized, I do have another one, a '77 sunroof delete too. I can't check either of them since I'm 1370 miles away! And, it's sunny and still warm down here~!

You're all welcome to bunk at our house and use my garage and tools. Have to be willing to drink around a camp fire.

I just noticed that this is in March. It doesn't stop snowing here until April or May...

Do the allow snow plows for front spoilers?

They have rentals for the safety gear and you can find "lightly" used suits and helmets online. As long as they are in good shape and the certs are still legal, they are fine.

I'm fully capable of siting around a camp-fire and drinking. I've also mastered the art of falling backwards so as to reduce the chances of falling into said fire..... heh
