|
|
Before I shoot myself for purchasing tires to wide, has anyone squeezed these on a 924S. This car is being setup for autocross, 1.5 camber in front. 1" lower. The usual other stuff springs, sways,
My concern is up front. Will the tire run without rubbing on the outside fender or spring on the inside? I run 205's right now but have seen some of the spec cars running the 225's
I want to purchase the Nitto's
Any thoughts
Thanks

I have 205/50-16s on the front of my 931, and can barely get my first knuckle between the tire and the spring.
However, this is easily rectified with an inexpensive coilover sleeve kit. _________________ Toofah King Bad

| I've run 225/50/15's front and rear for years on 15x6 cookies and never had a problem. Rolled fenders, lowered, all that. Its is close but I think the 45's would probably fit. |

What did you end up doing? I need to order some 15" tires today for my 924S for the DE season. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

We've been running 225/45's on the ITB car for years, with a coilover front conversion. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Any recommendations for a 924S with a stock suspension and stock 15" phone dials? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I run 225/50-16s all around on some old 928 rims. The backs are 16x8 and the fronts are 16x7. I need to install 5 mm spacers in the fronts because of the offset.
You really need at least a 6.5 or 7.0 inch wide rim to run 225's.

I would recommend 8s for 225 and 7 for 205. At least if you have R-compound. or else the sidewalls will have a hard time, if you drive at high pace. Whats the ET on the stock rims for the S, the biggest problem for me is the spring/springseat. When camber is about -3 degrees its only the ET 23 7" wide wheels that has lots of space, stock 6" with 195 street tyres are almost touching the spring, maybe a finger between. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Need is such a subjective word! We run 225/45's on 6" rims. Just don't have the option, the class rules restrict us to 6" rims. You just have to have a very good tire guy. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Just picked up a set of 16x6 trashcans so now I'm looking for 16" R compound recommendations. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Hoosier R6s if you have the money and can afford to replace them every season or more. I run the A6s on my autocross car - there's nothing like them.
I have heard the new Nittos are very similar (same compound) to the Toyo R-888s.
Michelin Pilot Sport Cups if you can afford them, but they will last a long time and are DOT legal, but not much tread in the rain.
I run Dunlop Direzza ZR-1s, but they are not quite R-comp. But they are cheap, DOT legal, and last for quite a while. Plus, they are amazing in the rain. _________________ 1987 Porsche 924S - track toy

225s fit fine on a 7 inch rim, but 6 would be a stretch (pun intended).
Here are 225/50/15 RA1s on my 924S. Note: I run -2.0 negative camber in the rear. Front fenders are rolled and I run about -2.5* camber in the front using camber plates. No rubbing whatsoever.

Nitto NT01s are the same compound as Toyo RA1s. R888s are (from what I've heard from very experienced racers) a different compound, and are not a good budget tire like the RA1 is.
The R888s could put down a slightly quicker lap than an RA1, but that window is small, and the R888 "heat-cycled" out before the tread was gone. You can run an RA1 or NT01 down to the cords before they really give up the ghost. _________________ Chris

Chris: you didn't get that car from Michigan, did you? There was one similarly-painted here a few years back...
Also - dude, you need more camber. It's faster. More track would help too... _________________ Vaughan Scott
