Hello guys,

I am currently building a 924 for Auto cross and track use. No regulation limitations, just a fan car (underpowered for sure )that I want to be the ultimate on handling
Car is 80 completely stock
I have many many parts from 944s and 951s hanging around, and I am willing to use those.

I am thinking of putting a complete set of arms and wishbones front and rear from a 944 (83) I have bought for parts
I am then thinking of brand new shocks for the intended use.
What do you guys suggest ?
KONI ? Bilstein or LEDA ?
What would bolt on directly to the 944 arms ?
I also have a spare set of 968 Club Sport anti roll bars from my 951 in the garage. Is it easy to install these ?
I am planning to install (5 lug wheels) slick or semi slick tyres, so I will also need some camber plates for the extra camber that the tyres will need.
I have the following sets of wheels
14 4 lug stock (no way)
15 931 (5 lug)
16 928 S flat dish optional on 931s
16 BBS Split rims
17 7" Cup 1s
I think that 15s are gonna be fine with Toyo R888s for the anemic 125 PS the engine currently produces.

Any ideas and recommendations are more than welcome

Do you wanna be fast or FAST?

There is a guy over here which is really good in race technology. He has worked with le mans cars, formula cars and currently working in WTCC. He developed a kit based on the leda dampers. Every car that has this kit goes like h*** and puts out awesome lap times. Although it costs a bit they do perform. Does it sound interesting ?

that surely sounds interesting.

I've been though many posts that discuss the suspension issue on fast road/DE 924s. I just want something that I will not have to change in the future. My plans are to install a 951 engine that I also have (2 of them actually), so I will need some good setup from day one

Sounds like you're heading in the right direction...suspension & tires! Leda setup is definitely top shelf both in performance and cost, so if it's spare no expense, probably a good way to go. Are you looking at a double- or single-adjustable setup?

As for the wheels, you might want to reconsider using the 16" flat dish rims...I believe they're forged and probably the lightest of everything you list there. The 15" stock 931 rims are (obviously) smaller which is better for acceleration, so it could be a toss-up between the two.

On the subject of lightening, if you're switching over to a 944/951-based 5-lug setup, why not go with the aluminum control arms and trailing arms from a later 944 or a 951? They will save some weight for sure.

The 968 ARBs should be a direct bolt on to either the 944 or the 951 suspension.

For what you are hoping to do, I would think a priority would be reducing weight, something you didn't mention above. This topic is adequately covered elsewhere, so if you're comfortable using search, you should be able to find lots of info.

+1 on the LEDA suspension, if you can swing the cash! If not, I'd suggest the Konis due to the adjustability - very nice to have in an autox car.

Bilstein coil-over set (951 cup) far the best for the money!!

Koni yellow is more for 'fast' street use.

Ground-Control coilovers and camber plates. Some sways and turbo phone dials and you're all set.

What is the recommended size of anti roll bars ?

Why built a track car from a 924 if you have a 951??? Take the 951, less work !!!

As light as possible, as close to the ground as possible. 15" will get you lower. Since the geometrics of the chassi is way off - compensate with hard springs. Try MOTON or Öhlins for superior dampers. LEDA is likely as good as. Reduce unsprung mass; rotors, calipers, wheels, dampers, springs, roll-bars, trailing arms... Reduce friction in the bushings - be carefull with polyethene. Get a wider track by using the late 944 A-arms and trailing arms, maybe even with early offset wheels..?

EDIT: For Autocross it might be a better idea to keep a softer - more forgiving suspension set-up, higher ridehight and a faster steering. It depends on the quality of the roads of course.
