|
Ok - picked up these pretty babies up from a friend for next to nothing.
They were extras from his 928S4, and they currently have almost worn out Sumitomo HTR 45's on them.
If I were to replace them with some real R-compound tires, what would be the best combination of size and brand for the buck?
Here's the current sizes that seem to fit under the fenders OK with some 7mm spacers in the front:
Rear: 8Jx16 - 245/45
Front: 7Jx16 - 225/50
I am looking for the best bang for my buck as a very novice AutoCross and DE driver.
Thanks,

Are the spacers to create space around the coil spring? Which offset are your fronts? _________________ Toofah King Bad

Yup - the inside of the tire was barely rubbing on the springs due to the camber setting. Made a real stink until I got the spacers installed.

| Personally Id go with 225s all around. 225 50 16 would be a good size to run. The 245s out back will just make the car understeer. Im a big fan of falken azenis 615s if you want a street tire, or toyo ra1 if you want an r compound tire. Both are available in this size. |

hm, r compund tires are really wide, i´m not shure 225 will fit. toy r888 are a cheap but fast option here. If you are not class restricted go for r compund ! _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

| I run 225 50 15 RA1s on my 924s with no issues at all. When the car had stock springs, and before I had any type of camber in the front I woudl rub the tire on the fender, but that went away with a decent alignment. |

| You're going to destroy those shiny wheels in the first race you run. Shame. |

Just got a chance to run my Sumi HTR+'s hard this AM on track... definitely way not up to the job there! Oh well, didn't buy them for lapping!
Still, was fun to get the turbo out... _________________ Vaughan Scott

| Im using 15x7 phonedials, et 52.3. Tires are 225 50 15 toyo RA1s. Before I had a decent alignment the top of the tire was about even with the fender. Once I got some camber in the car the tops of the tires were under the fenders. If you want a picture Ill snap a few. I just replaced the upper strut mounts with camber plates and swapped for manual steering so the alignment is way off, but even still the tires are still beneath the fenders. |

With the offsets on the 928 rims, everything was good except the fronts needing the thin (7 mm) spacers to clear the spring.
Fronts are ET 65 7Jx16
Rears are ET 52.3 8Jx16
I'll find out if the 225/50's fit later this week.

I think its the camberplates that does it. Or else the tyre will touch the springs..And i have Cookie cutters, maybe et23, i dont remember.. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

I run 225/45/15 Hoosiers on my car, no issues with fitment under the fenders; been running 7mm spacers in front, going to move up to 20 mm after Chris showed it can be done (though tight with the fender - that's what the stiff springs are for, to keep the fenders off the tires ).
Camber is 3 deg, and rims are currently stock 15x6" 924 rims, though I used to run the late-offset (52mm) phonedials.
Also running 2.5" ID race springs up front, BTW. _________________ Vaughan Scott

When the car had the OEM M030 suspension anda street alignment the left front would rub under hard cornering, so I raised the car up. Once I went with 400# 2.5"ID springs up front and got an alignment the rubbing went away. I dont think Im going to have tire clearance issues with the plates, but well find out as Imabout to put everything back together so I can get it aligned again. I am thinking about using some spacers to increase track width though. |

You won't have any clearance issues with that setup - just a question of how much spacer you can stuff in there. _________________ Vaughan Scott
