You really think so?
As an 4x4 it is not that bad, but it is meant to be a Porsche.
It might make them lots of money (which is good)but somehow it just doesn't echo what Porsche stands for.
It looks like a cash-in on the 996 styling without any of the elegance of it.
It is a car for wankers in my opinion (sorry to anybody that does buy it) not drivers.

It looks better than I thought it would. I kept seeing the VW SUV pics, and I think the Porsche version looks better. Regardless of appearance, twin turbo V8s are pretty sweet in any car!
Could this be a topic for the engine swap section?!?

I think it's better looking than the Boxster.
They need to bring back to front-engine cars again. Imagine what the 944 or 968 would look like today. |

A watercooled engine in the front???
That's not what Porsche is, it should be a flat-six, aircooled in the back!!
hmm, what am I talking about?!?!?!

Lemme put it this way:
Family of four in the back of the car.
Wife is talking on the phone (what else is new?).
Kids are fighting or their heads are attached to some electronic device.
Dog is sleeping.
It's just you, your Cayenne, and "the huddled auto masses".
Camaro pulls up beside you. You wave your pink slip at him, thumb your nose, and try not to laugh hysterically...you hit the gas, and tear off a strip of rubber, leaving your 2002 Camaro genius in a cloud of dust and smoke - and remember, you did it in a station wagon.
You tell me: Which is the cooler car?

I agree it's fugly. And it is fine as a SUV (which I dont like anyway) and am probably biased as I see all SUV's as gas guzzling bricks waiting to rear end my beutiful car. I just hope it spawns a front engined smaller car ( ala 944 with half of the V8 engine ) or at least races the Paris-Dakar Rally.
Station wagon? The Cyanne is an SUV or a sports activity vehicle or at least a crossover (or whatever marketing will call it). A station wagon?([ This Message was edited by: Pat on 2002-03-08 07:23 ]

Looks like a 4 door sedan on steroids. I want to see the rest of the vehicle before making any judgement.
A volvo from a Marvel superhero comic.
I was never keen on the boxster but it grew on me so this latest Zuffenhausen beast will also.

Remember looks aren't everything, I want to see the real world stats.

Here's one more consideration:
It's the first Porsche innovation since the GT. A twin turbo'ed V8 is exactly what the world needed. |

Now we know how big fans of companies like Mercedes & BMW felt when they developed their SUVs.
Despite the fact that you will probably see this car on every corner and it will no doubt rob Porsche of some of its exotic-car status....this SUV promises to be what the 911 is to the ordinary car: extraordinary.
No, the styling isn't great, but it works, and certainly competes with other German/Japanese luxo-SUVs so it will sell. And that's the point.
Hey....20 something years ago the 924 was different and it was also the best selling model in the Porsche line.
