Just for fun, I made a page that shows what my 924 would look like in various colors.
http://cq3.nofadz.com/924colors/
I think grey, green, and blue look the best. |

| Actually, none of them yet! The top picture is what it really looks like, but I can't drive it until I get it registered and I have to pass the smog test first. |

Matt,
I feel for you about the smog thing. I'm going through the same bullshit right now. I've failed two different smogs at two different locations in two different ways - but they were just pre-tests.
Anyway, I'm also looking at paint schemes right now 'cause I sanded through my paint while trying to save it. Though many people will disagree, I think the 924 body style lends itself to a two-tone paint job very well. Look at some of the sales brochures and posters with a two-tone 931; they look great! There was never a two-tone copper as far as I know; but's it's certainly an idea to entertain. I think copper with pearl white or black would look sweet.
Keep in mind that wheels and tires will have a profound effect on the overall look of your car. I've been downloading pictures of different wheels (wheelenhancement.com) and superimposing them on pictures of another car to help me decide what I want.
The way you changed colors of your car seemed very easy, what graphics software are you using? I'm using the crappy 'Paint' program that comes with windows to try and change colors manually. Whatever you're doing must be easier. Help!

I found these two-tone pictures:

Which one of those styles are you referring to? I think the silver/black one looks a lot better than the red one.
I made the pictures with Paint Shop Pro, using the lasso tool and the magic wand tool to select only the painted portions of the car, and then using some of the gamma and color tools to change the color. You can also do the same thing with Photoshop. |

What is so bad about your smog test? I pass mine with a >100,000 mile 924 with no problemo. ???????

| California has really strict smog regulations I think. I haven't done a test yet but I'm sure right now it would fail, because the belt for the air pump is missing. I need to fix the exhaust leak too. |

| paint is crap when it comes to meddling with pics. use adobe photoshop (easy to pick up) or coreldraw (better but slightly more difficult to pick up |

The air pump I don't think will fail your emmisions! It does pretty little.
Troy whatever happened, did you check to see if the gas was bad, that can screw up everything in the tests. |

Matt,
As far as 2-tone schemes, I definitely prefer the silver and black style in the photos you linked over the red style. That second one I think looks like a wrecked car that has been pieced together. The only other time I've seen a 2-tone like that is on Vince Ponz's car before he re-painted it.
As far as smog, my car had high CO the first time, high HC the second time, and high NOx both times! Both mechanics blamed the NOx on carbon deposits. It's possible that the oil leaking into my turbo would have created carbon deposits but I'm not sure yet. From what I've heard, the NA's usually pass with no problem.
Good luck...Troy |

The two tone is a similar colour to mine, very dark green at the bottom and pale silvery green top, but i'm a bit confused with that picture cos it has all the hallmarks of a turbo but only has 4 bolt wheels, whats all that about???
