Just got the latest entry list; we're currently slated to have 6 924's racing at Mid-Ohio in two weeks - me, Jeremy and his dad in GTS1, and 3 924S's in GTS2! Plus, with our own run group, there won't be any pesky Hwords to deal with, just our own kind!
Added bonus, Jeremy - Bobby Caldwell, a local BMW GTS1 guy, is signed up, as should be Chuck Ellis, who I understand will be coming up from Atlanta with his GTS1 Merc! Will be fun, like it or not! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yeah, sorry Ryogi for not keeping you in the loop. I have been really busy the last two weeks dealing with some personal stuff and of course working on the cars.
Here, in a nutshell is what happend to our cars and where we are.
On #53 (blown motor) we had a pretty massive blow up but not enough to put a whole in the side of the block but we did chip away at the block pretty good in the process. We think the blown motor was caused by rushing to put the thing back together too quickly after Pocono. This time Dad took his time and put it together this past weekend and we installed it on Saturday. We did have to use up our last 924 crank out of a junked 924 that we did have sitting around the shop. We stripped everything else off that we might need and then had it hauled away. I hope this is the last of the destroyed cranks for a while. We have an oil reading at 5 bars at 1500 RPM when the car is cold. Were more than pleased and are ready to run at Mid-O.
Menawhile on #35 (???) we first thought it was a fuel starvation problem. But before we diagnosed that we checked the engine's compression. Sure enough cyl #4 was letting enough air through it to heat a garage, not good. The other three cyl's had good compression so we took off the head and found that we blew another head gasket
If you recall Ryogi we re torqued the head at Summit on #35. When we did so, we waited and waited till (we thought) the car had cooled down enough to do the job. We now suspect that we over torqued the head and that caused a loss of compression because we were reading the torque specs on a car that was cold. Well if you recall it was 95 degrees that day in the shade.
Sooo, were off to Mid-O now with two cars. Not sure how competitive we'll be but we'll have fun anyway.
Sorry #39 had to go like that but for myself, Roger, Dad and Danny, were glad your sticking with the 944 Cup/GTS/SCCA ITS. It's a lot of fun having you around and your always welcome to share tools, cold drinks, food, etc with us and our "PORSCHE-IT". Hopefully with your new purchase, it should be more reliable for you. I know that Kim and Alex are professionals and it was a good choice to purchase from them.
Ryogi, are you still interested in running with us in the Three Hour Enduro at the Glen in Oct? I'm starting to gauge interest.

Sounds good. You need to have an air dam like #77. Or a little splitter with it, if you can. It should fix you "push" annoyance. Get materials from HomeDepot!
So what is the current odd on #53-#35-#77 ?
Drive or not, I'd like to be a part of the Enduro at the Glen. _________________ R.I.P.:a 924 ITA race car |

Heh heh... well, there's also a Mercedes ITS car, a local guy in a Bimmer, and perhaps one other car (a 944?), so it'll be busy out there... but anyway, not to brag, but I suspect it'll be hard to overcome the local knowledge of the track... plenty for the Jadczaks to learn!
Reminds me, we ought to consider a track walk, either Friday or Saturday after racing... Jeremy, when do you guys show up again? _________________ Vaughan Scott

I was just going to ask when people were showing up. I've blocked off the time to crew, but I don't remember if this is Fri/Sat/Sun or just Sat/Sun. My only complications are that we also might be bringing the GT1 for some cheap test/tune track time to get ready for the Runoffs, and I double booked myself for Sunday morning. All that means is that I'll have to miss the Sunday quali session.
How much 'local knowledge' do you want??
One neat story about the knowledge that flagging brings to track knowledge: Last week at the regional at Nelson I made a suggestion to a Spec Miata driver at lunch about what I was seeing on his turn-ins (basically they were too violent and he never could catch up with the resulting push). The next seeion he dropped a full second off hist time! And smoothed out over the weekend and dropped another second on Sunday. It was a really cool "thanks" to get.
Can anyone bring me a spare good hood to borrow for a few weeks in order to pull a mold? I'll also bring that Vanagon tranny so we can check out the LSD. |

This is a Fri/Sat/Sun event, but I think Jeremy, Ray, and I won't be showing up until Friday. I hope to be there by around 3-4PM.
I'd love to bring spare bits, but I'm going to be loaded to the gills with parts and gear... have a commitment to bring a block back for a guy, etc. etc... but I will try to remember to bring that diff down.
Absolutely right about the feedback from flaggers... that's why they call it the second-best seat in the house! If you make it out to the corners, I will be very interested to hear any feedback... been around there many times, but there's always more to learn!
Be advised, since this is a spectator event - we, as drivers, are allowed 1 crewmember only. Everyone else must pay spectator entry. We (Jeremy, Ray, and I) need to get our heads together and line up our crew lists, make sure we've got everyone covered... Andy, are you crewing or flagging? _________________ Vaughan Scott

My plans all along have been to crew for you as requested.
1 crew? No overcrew? Is Lawrence that cheap?
I won't know about if we are bringing the GT1 until we see how this weekend goes at the National. We've made so many massive changes the past few weeks that a weekend of testing would help. This crew cost thing might make a difference, since we bring three.
I will also admit to a bit of reluctance to flag the event due to the stunt that Mansier pulled at Nelson's last year, and since Mid-O unilaterally changed the date of our National (after everything was agreed upon) from next week to this weekend. This meant that we were not the last CenDiv National (which Mid-O agreed to) and that no one could leave their cars stored at the track until September, as they normally do.
So I'm up in the air. I am obligated Sunday morning with my quartet. If I flag it will just be for Friday and Saturday. |

Easy, there - it's not Lawrence being cheap. This is not just a regular NASA event; it's part of the regular Mid-O Pro Racing schedule, a regular spectator event. This is the reason for the clamp-down on crew entries.
That said - I refuse to make anyone who crews for me pay for their entry OR their beer! You will be taken care of if you show, if I have to refund your ticket cost in person. It's simply a matter of coordinating amongst the drivers to spread the crew around. With 3 924's in the action, I'm sure we'll be able to put you to use! I'm bringing 3 guys myself. _________________ Vaughan Scott

The plans are to bring to GT1 car, so I'll be available without using a crew count. Next we have to coordinate paddocking. We'll be there first thing Friday morning.
We had a great weekend. Shattered the track record (1:27.488 - the old record was 1:28:85) and (finally!) got a win at Mid-O. Sportscar did not even list us as a darkhorse for the Runoffs.... |

Excellent, good work! Who's driving the GT1 car?
Looking forward to seeing you there... Gonna be a big 924.org meeting! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Oh, yeah, finding our paddock spot - I expect I'll be parked right by GTS Challenge headquarters, hopefully with Jeremy and his dad right by us. There will be a GTS Challenge flag at HQ, among all the others, and I'll be flying my shiny new yellow Porsche flag! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Tom Sloe is the owner/driver. He now hold records at Nelson, Mid-O, and Texas World Speedway (I think that one still stands).
Where is the GTS HQ going to be located, so we don't have to wander all over the place looking for it? We're fairly compact - full-sized pickup with a 24' trailer. I'll have my TDI, too, since I'll need to get back home for Sunday morning. |

Me and my crew are leaving the Philly area around 6AM friday morning. We hope to get to mid-o before 4 PM so we can unloade the "PORSCHE-IT" and the cars in the daylight. We'd also love to get in that track walk too. Andy and anyone else who might be in the area and want to stop by, we have a green and (not for long) greyish/white horse truck that were going to be setting up with. Stop by! Our crew is harmless but the wise cracks and ball busting are free range so be aware
Vaughan, were going to make every attempt to get that seat out to you too. DO you think there is room for those cranks?
