I tried it saterday, then today afterwork
Jacked er up again and tried with the big vice grips to ne avail[counter clock wise right]guess Ill try a stations lift or see if the european car clinic has time at the end of the day to through er up and then maybe I can get enough leverage ...Joe
any ideas though are good to have I guess. |

warm up the engine the aluminum oil pan should expand faster than the plug use a very large pipe wrench and it may come loose also you might try a troch heat up the pan not the plug if that dosnt work you will have to drill into the plug and try an extractor |

This may sound stupid or extreme but if you get it up on the staion lift weld a 2 foot piece of steel to it and break it loose. After it's loose cut the steel off and spin it off. Before that you might try mildly heating the nut and the spraying WD-40 onto it while it's still hot and let it soak in. Don't overdo the heating because I don't know what the two materials are and you definately don't want to permanently weld them.

There are some pretty amazing high grip pliers out now. I used some to take out half shaft bolts once that used 8 sided allen keys but had stripped.

HI
I had the same problem. Eventually used molegrips and alot of cursing to release the drain plug, then welded a larger nut onto the now round end of the drain plug.

Here is a trick I like to use on rounded bolts/nuts. Find a larger nut that will tightly fit over the rounded head and tap in place until the 'new' nut is slightly higher than the rounded one. This will give you an area to build up with weld. Mig weld the two together( be sure not to weld over the edge of the new nut or you won't be able to put a socket on). On rusty bolts I like to cool imediately with cold water to break the rust free and can usually spin out with my fingers.
You could also just weld a gob of weld to the rounded nut on one side. This will stop your vise-grips from slipping.

| I imagine that since aluminum is a great heat sink, you would have to use a lot of heat to be able to weld steel. Also, since aluminum has a lower melting point than steel, I imagine that all heating would do is weld the aluminum onto the steel nut, making your problem worse, not better. I would use vice grips, or how about using a grinder to create two flat spots on the nut, they get it out with a crescent wrench. When you are done, install a new nut. If you replace the copper washer, you would not have leaks. Also there would be no need to tighten the nut like King Kong. No need to force the nut nhard enough to strip it. |

Yea goin to european car clinic afterwork he s gonna lift it and well try.. next ill do the grind a flat spot for a wrench one side is all chewed up i played to much trying to get it off with the vice grips so its not really round ..well see
ill take my camara to the shop the guys restoring a 356 speedster hes a german guy really nice and knows his shit on all aspects of my car thats for sur 911 too i guess and bmws to and audis -bye |

| I am speaking from experience here.... the base plug is made of steel on my car on it can easily be welded with a MIG welder. The heat created from the MIG is no where near hot enough to hurt the aluminum base pan. I have used this method of extraction many times in the past with very good success. |

What happend was it was put on a lift and this tool was hammered on that is made to remove rounded nuts and it was removed :0
