hmm i don't know but no one around here ever said that when the engine backfires and goes very slow in rpm's it just doesn't get enough fuel in the engine...not enough power is getting to the fuel pump it seems to be the only problem, no headgaskets involved
another thing the fuel pump relay, does it have to be only porsche relay...could it be any relay with same amps and voltage? and does it have to have a fuse in the relay?
BTW ROGER - YOU ARE RIGHT, WHEN IT IS POSSIBLE DO NOT USE A SWITCH PUT A RELAY - SWITCH CAN'T PUT ALL THE POWER THRU THE WIRING - USE RELAY ESPECIALLY FOR THE FUEL PUMP

| Backfire can be caused by over advanced timing. Make sure the timing is right. Do you have oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil pan. If so, you need a head gasket. If not, maybe you are ok. What are your compression readings like? Tell me PSI, from front to back. |

EITHER SEE A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC OR FIND SOMEONE TO HELP YOU REPLACE THE HEADGASKET
no offense but you are not listening |

| Glad you got the compression check. What were the readings? Were they pretty much even, or did they vary a lot. Have you checked your timing yet? |

Sounds like a fuel prob.I had rust in the tank .. 'You get a haynes and readit and study the stuff there ..', I did this mistake and spent 167.00 bucks before I knew what I know
what I know about the 924..l

glad you passed i cant imagine what is causing you symptoms but i am glad to be wrong especially if it saves money
tell me more and ill see if i can come up with something else
who performed the compression test did they have an oppinion what was causing your symptoms what were the readings how long have you had the car how many miles are on the engine did the previous owner give you any maintiance records
try conecting a vacum gauge directly to the manifold post the readings good luck

| Actually... I hate to be a bother but you CAN have a bad head gasket and still have good compression. Its not likely but entirely possible, the gasket COULD be leaking between a water jacket and an oil line. and not leaking into a cylinder. although this doesnt really sound like your problem, I just wanted to clarify it. Do what people have already said, check timing and fuel pressure. |
