I swapped ignition wires around today, to get the right lengths going to the right spark plugs. Now the car won't fire up. I checked Haynes and it looks like all the wires are going to the right spark plug. I just want to verify that the cylinders are 1,2,3,4 from the front of the car, the distributor turns clockwise with #1 at the back right(faceing the dist.) and that the order is 1-3-4-2.
I must be missing something.
thanks

Make sure of where the #1 is at the right place on the distributor. To check make sure the mark on the harmonic balancer is at the ponter and the dot on the cam gear is at the pointer, then take off your distributor cap to check the location of #1. If the distributor has been pulled and put back in randomly you can't rely on it being in a set place.

Ok guys correct me if I am wrong here, but if the car is timed correctly the #1 post on the distributor should to the one on the drivers side and front of the distributor... just about pointing at the closest intake manifold bolt. Right. I think that you have the wires off by one post. Pull them and move them all one clockwise. Then the car should be set up ok. Sounds like you are now fireing 4132 instead of 1324... Know what I mean?

Yikes.... can't believe I made that mistake.
Yes it is 1 3 4 2

Sorry for that mix up

Anyway I think the wires are mixed up so his engine is trying to fire 3421. I think he needs to rotate his wires by one in the cap. Not rotate the cap. So he will fire the correct 1342

Thanks for the slap on the head

Eric
