|
|
I Bought A Set Of AIR Flares Due To Recommendations From All Of You But I'm Not So Sure Now.
I Quasai Test Fitted Them And They Seem To Bow Away From The Body A Considerable Amount And Don't Really Provide As Much "Flare" As I Would Have Hoped.
Are The GT Racing Ones Wider?
Am I Going To Have To Go For The Ugly Le-Mans Flares (Yuck!)?
Any Ideas? _________________ 1973 911-RS 3.2 Track Car

You may wish to read my post in the main section. I have heard, from a GT/GTR owner (as in, reputable source) that the GT Racing (and, presumably, also the AIR) stuff are all just molds taken directly off of factory parts. So they should fit OK. They may need to be pulled up and really held to the body with the fasteners.
Personally, I always much preferred the Le Mans rear fenders!! That's what I'm going after, anyway, when I do mine... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Le Mans flairs are huge there perfect for a racer though for street the others are nice. Im sure you just have to pull them up to the body &
they will fit.. Good luck _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Thanks For The Reply Guys !!
I Guess That I Would Better Phrase My Question By Asking-
Are There Any Carrera GT Style Flares That Extend Further Out Than The AIR/GT Racing Units. I Want To Try And Fit A Larger Tire In The Rear And Could Use Another 30mm Of Coverage Over The Tire I Intend To Use (345-35-15).
Yeah...... I Know !!!!!! I'm Crazy !!!!
I Got A Great Deal On Rims And Tires Off Of A 1989 Porsche Carrera Speedster And They Just Look Sick On The 924 But I Need More Coverage.
Am I Going To Have To Make My Own Set Of "Wide Body" Custom Rear Flares (Rally Style )
Any Other Ideas !?? |

| well ,you could make a spacer to go between your flares and the body . get some styrofoam (exspanded poly styreen) ,and make some blocks to hold the flare away from the body howevermuch you like . use some cheap white glue (water based so it will come off and not harm the paint) glue the 8-10 blocks around the wheel well . fill the spae between the blocks with some paper mache ,a thin paper mache cover over the whole thing to get a general shape . use a cheap shellac /vanish to seal . make a mold of it with polyester fabric and polyester resin . use the mold to make a spacer out of the same materials (polyester) sand it to the disired finnished shape, and put it on . or go to a body shop that does fiberglass work and have them make a spacer . |

the largest flares avalible are the lemans flairs which are only IIRC 2" wider than the CGT flairs, and unless you are pushing about 500bhp 345 are WAY too wide, you are just going to be slowing yourself down, and getting worse fuel consumption _________________ 3 928s, |

Why not just make your own out of fiberglass in the first place.
It's a bit of a mess to work with, but it's not that hard.
I made a full front end for my Probe GT a couple years ago.
Then I desided to lower it.
HA
That was funny.
It would have been about 3 inches under ground once I got the car as low as I wanted.
Well.... scrap that. _________________ 81' 931 |

Yeah, that's stupid amounts of rubber... really is just gonna slow you down... even with a turbo, plus IC and more boost, 285 would be pushing it... I recommend you sell them and go for something more moderate. Cheaper when you have to replace the tires, too! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Oh, yeah, I should add - 15" rims??? That won't help when you try to upgrade the brakes, if you do. You'd want at least 16"s, if not 17"s, in order to handle more brakes like the 951 brakes (what I plan to do - 951S brakes and 17" rims). And if you do plan on making the car faster, bigger brakes might not be such a bad idea... _________________ Vaughan Scott

This Is What It Comes Down To ----
I Love The Way That These Super Ultra Wide Steam Rollers Look On The Car. If It Was A Function Thing I Wouldn't Even Bother With The Flares At All. I Already Have Cars That Handle Well And Go Fast (Yes, Even Better Than Our 931's) But I Want This 931/937 Wanbe To Look A Certain Way.
If All Goes As Planned I Should Be Making Just About 300-320 Reliable HP With About 1.0-Bar Of Boost. Maybe Even 350 Or More With Higher Boost.
As For Brakes, I Already Test Fitted A Set Of 930 Calipers And Am Fabricating The Brackets To Make Them Work Along With The Thicker 930 Rotors. I'lll Let You Guys Know How It Works Out (Don't Hold Your Breath, The Winter Is Just Starting).
I Already Figured Out How I'm Going To "Make" My Wider GT-Style Flares. It's Going To Be A Challenge But I'll Get Some Pictures Together When I Take The First Steps.
Thanks All !! _________________ 1973 911-RS 3.2 Track Car

I hope you're not planning to do this with a 2.0 liter 924 engine.

Hello Rich [Soyracer]
Why not come over to the house and look at my GT Racing flares. I have Fuchs 7 and 8s on and on the rear without spacers I can only get 225s under them.
The GT Flares are nice but fitting them was a bit of a problem. I choose to glue and bolt them on. I filled in the bolt holes.
Looks nice.
Let me hear from you. Rich lives about 10 miles away and we know ea. other. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

To Lizard And 924 Turbo:
Let Me Clear This Up A Little (Though Very Much Off Topic).
I Write Everything (Everything) In A Special Windows Word Program That Was Designed To Help Me With A Form Of Dyslexia I Have.
Back In High School I Was Not The Best Student And Had Problems Writing Reports. Once I Bought A Computer I Discovered That I Have A Tendency To Drop The First Letter In Words As Well As Transposing Numbers (So norance Instead Of Ignorance And 492 Instead Of 924). I Learned To Emphasize The First Letter Of Every Word By Capitalizing It And In The Program I Already Have The Fonts And HTML Set Automatically. Without This Program My Spell Check Would Go Crazy And I Apologize If The Capitalization And Bolt Text Bothers You.
People Whom Nitpick Silly Things And Are Rude About It Bother Me But That's Not Important.
Anyway... I Hope To Make Some Progress On These Flares In The Coming Weeks (Remember !? The Reason For This Post !!!) And Vince, If You’re Reading This, I'll Give You A Call To Take A Closer Look At You Car. Thanks For The Offer Too Vince !!
Oh, I Purposely Shut Off The Bold And Font Color Settings. HAPPY !??!
